Hey internet friends, I need some suggestions. For no particular reason I've had the idea to get someone a "statue of limitations", like a desk figurine or something. The problem is I don't have any good ideas what one would look like, and of course search engines just autocorrect my search and are completely unhelpful.

Any ideas?

The clock on our microwave started running fast, like it would pick up a few extra minutes every day until it got to be about 4 hours fast. Then we had a power spike and now it doesn't keep time at all.

But not to worry, I like to DIY and I just happen to have the right tools for this.

Is there a name for the category that contains vehicles that are traditionally muscle-powered but also their electrically assisted versions? Like bicycles, various forms of cargo bikes …

For example I think an electric cargo bike with three wheels is bot strictly a “bicycle” simply duebto number of wheels, but it feels like it’s in the same group of things overall.

Otoh a fully electric scooter (the Vespa-style) doesn’t feel like it’s in there. It’s clearly a motor vehicle.

ivanvector,

@esther I and people I work with use "active transport" in our advocacy work. That category definitely includes electric-assisted human-powered transport, and I think it's reasonable to also include fully-electric versions of vehicles that would be traditionally human-powered, like an electric cargo bike. It also includes for example wheelchairs, strollers, pushbikes, skateboards, roller blades, pogo sticks, pretty well anything that takes muscle power of some sort and is relatively low-mass and low-speed.

Electric versions of traditionally gas-powered transport aren't included, like those ridiculous "e-bikes" with the vestigial pedals that are really just electric versions of a gas moped. They have a place in cities but they're motor vehicles and should be treated as motor vehicles.

users, is there a way to get the federated feed in the app? Is it server-dependent? Mine only has local, and I'm pretty much already following everyone on this instance.

ivanvector,

@nikclayton Thanks! That was much easier than I expected and I'm a bit embarrassed that I couldn't find that setting myself.

"Threads is a mobile-only experience at the moment and users can only make posts, write comments and follow people on the platform's mobile app."

You lost me at "mobile-only" 🙃

ivanvector,

@fribbledom In a very roundabout way, Threads being mobile-only has led me to discover that scrolling Instagram on desktop with AdBlock running is a much better experience than the mobile app.

Threads being mobile-only (or mobile-first or whatever) ought to tell us everything we need to know about what they want to do with our data.

Widdle babby sundews!

I found this young sundew (drosera, cultivar unsure) growing under my much larger and more mature sundew (not pictured) as it went to flower, and finally decided to separate it out from the terrarium my dog smashed a few months ago. Lo and behold, this second tiny sundew was also growing deep in the moss, so I separated that out too. Another chance to try out my phone's macro lens.

Another angle of the two sundews.

A helpful tip for any users:
By default, your homepage is set to “All”.

You can change this to your subscribed Magazines by hovering over you Username in the top right and selecting “Settings”. There you can set the Homepage setting to “Subscriptions” and save.

ivanvector,

@EighthLayer That's handy, thanks! I was just going to bookmark the /sub page.

kbin.social is struggling under the load today, just like mastodon.social does every few months when musksite does some other stupid thing. Give it time, many former reddit communities are already establishing themselves in the new "threadiverse".

I managed to create an account, @ivanvector, but federation doesn't seem to be working all that well right now.
