thanks to @jaybird110127 I have a memory of my mom again! my mom used to have a bird clock, and I have been trying to find it for years, but I haven't had any luck. now I at least have the sounds from that particular bird clock, and I made a clock for Steves Talking Clock of this particular bird clock. there are bird clocks out there, but they don't have the sounds this one does.

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 you don't know how much this is appreciated.

Twenty-five years ago today, on Monday, December 28, 1998, my sister Karolann gave me a bird clock. This is an analog wall clock that plays bird songs every hour. It's been sitting on my wall for the last twenty-five years, and is, to my knowledge, the oldest Christmas present I'm still actively using. Although it still works, I can tell its days are numbered. In particular, time has not been kind to the button you use to adjust what bird song plays, as it's really hard to make it actually work.
Several years ago I recorded all twelve bird songs using an electromagnetic pickup coil, which for those who don't know, lets you record audio almost as good as if the device had an audio output jack. I've never been able to find another clock with the same bird sounds on it. So have this recording for your enjoyment.
Bird songs: Great Horned Owl at 12:00, Northern Mockingbird, Black-Capped Chickadee, Northern Cardinal, Downy Woodpecker, Canada Goose, House Wren, American Robin, Song Sparrow, Belted Kingfisher, Tufted Titmouse & Baltimore Oriole.

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 that is the same bird clock my mom had for a very very long time. sadly my sister nocked it off the wall, and it did still work for a little while longer. my mom passed away in october 2019, and I have never heard this kind of clock sense then. I would love to take these sounds and put them in a bird clock that I can use with steves talking clock so I can hear them again. sadly I don't know how I can download this file or I would give it a shot. it would be a bit tricky for me to edit though as it sounds like some of the bird sounds are right up against the next bird with barely any break between them, but I would still try seporating them, as I miss hearing that clock.

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 that is a very very easy change. I have I think 98 other clocks, so I can look at one to see what the filenames need to be. I think all of them are in mp3, not wav, but I am going to give it a try to see if I can make this work. thanks again for this. this is so awesome!

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 nope some clocks are in .wav, so this will work. there is a bird clock one, but not this one.

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 do you know the name of that bird clock so I can disdingwish it from the other one? the other one is called birdclock.

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 ok, I just made the clock, and put it in the folder, and restarted steves clock, and set it to the clock you just gave me. I will see if it does the right thing in around 11 to 12 minutes.

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 if this works, it will almost make me cry as like I said, I haven't heard that clock in a very long while, and it will remind me of her. thanks again for this.

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 if this works, and if I did it right, the filenames need to be like this. hour12.wav

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 yay! it worked! I heard the right one just now.

I use ASR on android to do all of my voice recording stuff. I got looking at it earlier and noticed that the annual subscription is only $2.49 per year, unless that’s a typo. If that’s true, what’s the catch? That app is worth it and more

jamminjerry,

@evilcookies98 I actually just did the one time payment. I think 10 bucks, but then I din't have to pay annually, but that coud be why the annually price is as low as it is.

I recorded these on 06 April 2013 originally, and they have changed slightly in the intervening years. Check the video description for that original recording if curious.

jamminjerry,

@pitermach @FreakyFwoof just listening to this, this sounds really cool! so I assume there are different sounds for different things like one for tornado warning, a different one for thunderstorm warning, things like that? that is sooooooooo much better than ours where you just hear one sound, the same sound for everything.

has anyone wanted to know what She-ra looks like? I snagged this description when I thought it was just her on the screen, and I think I got it.
This is an image of an animated female character with long, flowing golden hair and blue eyes. She's adorned with a golden crown-like headpiece with a red gem at the center and matching gold armbands. She has pale skin, red lips, and her facial expression seems contemplative or possibly concerned. The character is set against a background of soft, painterly clouds in a sky that is a mix of blue, white, and green hues, suggesting it could be either a serene or a tumultuous setting. The overall style is reminiscent of 1980s animation, with bold outlines and a relatively simple color palette.

Here's some audio for your Christmas Eve enjoyment. In October of 2011, my dad purchased an iPhone 4S, his first iPhone. At that point, Siri was the newest kid on the block, and on Christmas Eve that year, Dad, Mom, and I decided to play a little game where we'd ask her all sorts of questions, most of them Christmas related in some way, and see how she responded. Naturally, a recording was made, and I'm posting it here for your enjoyment.

jamminjerry,

@jaybird110127 now what you need to do is find the latest IPhone, and make sure it is up to date, and ask it the same questions, and see if you get the same answers

Good evening, #JAWS users. Have a question. How does one configure #Windows11 such that the list of system tray icons is always fully expanded? Thanks in advance for any help. @freedomscientific #JAWSForWindows #JAWS2024 #Blind #VisuallyImpaired #LowVision #BlindMasto #BlindMastodon #BlindFedi @mastoblind @main

jamminjerry,

@nycki96 @NoahCarver @freedomscientific @mastoblind if you are talking about showing all your things in the system tray in windows 11, there is no show all anymore. let me get you to where you need to be, and you have to turn each one on that you want to see. so here is how you get to the list.

  1. press win+i
  2. tab once and you should hear home, 1 of 12.
  3. down arrow 4 times and you should hear personalization. press the spacebar on this to select it.
  4. tab 3 times and you should hear background, 1 of 10.
  5. down arrow 7 times and you should hear tast bar. press space on this to select it.
  6. press tab 9 times and you should hear other system tray icons collapsed. press the spacebar on this to expand it.
  7. press tab twice and you will be in a list of all things that can have a system tray icon. use your up and down arrow keys to go threw this list.
  8. when you want to see the status of if it is on or off, meaning its system tray icon, tab once you should hear that apps name by either on or off. if it is off, and you want it on, press the spacebar, and you will hear it say on.
  9. once you have checked the status of the icon and if you needed to change it press shift tab twice to get back to the list, and repete steps 7 and 8 until you are done.
  10. once you are done setting all of the apps the way you want them simply press alt+f4 to close the settings app. you don't have to press any type of ok, or apply button. once you change the status of an apps icon, it saves that setting right away.
jamminjerry,

@nycki96 @noahcarver @freedomscientific @mastoblind this works on my windows 11 machine running windows 23H2. I was doing the steps as I was writing them to make sure I had the number of times you had to press different things correct.

jamminjerry,

@noahcarver @freedomscientific @mastoblind I hope you were encluded on the reply I did, but in short windows 11 doesn't have a show all anymore. you have to turn each icon on and off. in the post I sent, I gave the steps to get to the list of your system tray icons and showed how to turn them on and off. if you didn't see this post, just let me know, and I will send the list of steps again.

jamminjerry,

@noahcarver @freedomscientific @mastoblind you are very welcome. I hope the directions I gave helped you out.

jamminjerry,

@noahcarver @freedomscientific @mastoblind like I said, I was actually doing the steps as I was writing them so that I made sure I counted, and wrote them correctly.

Apple needs to create a lightning to USBC dongle, so I can just charge my iPhone 13 Mini with USBC. 😂

jamminjerry,

@hmaealdeza @Brynify @simon this is only for android. not sure what you use for a phone.

jamminjerry,

@hmaealdeza @Brynify @simon I paid for the app as it is very accessible, but I think paying for it might get you the cloud storage stuff, but don't quote me on that one.

jamminjerry,

@hmaealdeza @Brynify @simon not sure if this would help you guys out or not, but here is me showing you guys the settings area, and the main window of ASR.

I guess there was one heck of a party today at Kalvins headstart. I think they said they selibrated 5 or 6 kids birthdays today, because between today, and January 9 when they go back to headstart these kids all have birthdays. this of course includes Kalvin as his birthday is the day after christmas.

jamminjerry,

@TheQuinbox oh really? that's cool! he turns 5 this year.
