What?? Microsoft told the EU Going Dark HLG that the problem of interception of private communications on OTT services is more technical than legal, and referred to technical work already conducted to develop real-time interception capabilities for Skype and Teams https://home-affairs.ec.europa.eu/document/download/1bb75432-ba0d-45f7-a068-d54a5574f5c0_en?filename=HLG%20meeting%20on%2010%20April%202024-request%20for%20input_en.pdf

Very disappointing if Microsoft is willing to undermine the security of end-to-end encryption and build backdoors for law enforcement.

The Going Dark High-Level Group is suggesting that the EU should be more like China/Iran and block access to communications services which do not comply with (also suggested) EU law on lawful interception for all types of communications services ("level playing field"), including of course secure #E2EE OTT services.

The Danish government is expanding its "targeted" scheme [1]. Currently, it covers 67% of the population (based on residence in the targeted geographical areas). With the new additional targeting criteria, the coverage will be 74% of the population (according to this answer to a parliamentary question https://www.ft.dk/samling/20231/almdel/reu/spm/590/svar/2022917/2825586/index.htm).

According to a press release from the Danish government this morning, the Commission has informed France and Germany that their national legislation on age verification does not comply with the Digital Services Act. Because of that, the Danish government has decided to shelve its own legislative plans for age verification (on porn platforms). https://em.dk/aktuelt/nyheder/2023/nov/regeringen-stoetter-europaeisk-loesning-om-aldersverifikation (in Danish)

Twitter users are adding context to Commissioner Johansson's misleading defence of her CSA proposal yesterday. The irony couldn't be bigger with the Commission wanting Twitter to do more about disinformation.. #ChatControl
