Out for a early rail trail ride with a friend and spotted this healthy mass of mushrooms. iNaturalist suggests Oyster mushroom?

Apropos of nothing (I hope), Shawn Mullin's Beautiful Wreck has been swirling around my brain the last 24 hours. Making dinner last night, “such a beautiful wreck". 2am wandering to the bathroom, “what a beautiful wreck you are”. Walk the dog this morning, “but you make such a beautiful wreck”.

The other day, shortly after my wife told me about an appt she'd set up in September I said, “great, now that's stuck in my head.”
“What?”
“The song”
[blink, blink]
“September? Earth Wind and Fire??”
"uh, maybe? not sure”
[I pull up the song sure she'd instantly recognize, she doesn’t]
"Not sure I listened to lyrics back then.”
Meanwhile I see a sign that says “turn around” and end up with Bonnie Tyler stuck in my head for days.

Hoverflies are the most recent to investigate my edibility. That big toe is getting pretty calloused after a few weeks of being barefoot, might be too tough even for macerating fly spit.

Hot day as we hit the 90’s for the first time. Enjoying shade and a light breeze on the deck while bugs check my blood levels and a tent caterpillar detours over my foot. 🦶 🐛

I've been wondering if something in the phone's camera system is visible or audible to bugs and birds. Like I can move around, get closer, but as soon as the camera app is opened that seems to spook them most of the time.
Just me?

@groink excellent, thanks!

Tried searching for info and why did Apple come out with a “focus” feature that has nothing to do with the camera? 🧐

Beautiful morning for a mt bike ride after overnight rain, which brought out a lot of Red Efts with birds in full song.

8 miles of new (to me) slippery trails in the bag. Part urban, part rural with two crossings of the motorway and a trip through IKEAs car park. I would have popped in to buy some “senap och dill sås” but I didn’t have time for another 8 miles round the store😂

A concrete spiral pathway leads up to the M4 motorway providing a pedestrian crossing over the 8 lanes. In the distance another spiral brings the path back down on the far side of the road. The structure is functional but ugly, accentuated by the grey evening sky and light rain. Only the surrounding green vegetation provides any softness to the scene.

@officehippy interesting scenery along the way!

@officehippy if one could get to the top it would be a fine, solid, high place for a telescope. 😉

@officehippy A dovecote! I'd never heard of that, but seems such an unlikely ending. Then again, it did the job: got the bride and 11 children.

Oh hello my precious .... how are you after .... 4 years????

I got to the lab today , colleague --- mounted the large robot arm for me and cleared the shop for my use. Whew a lot to remember since the last time I used this.

I got networking to work, and was like, "success for today, bail."

Next --- funny shop safety sign.

A long time ago I made a little pond in our back yard. Ostensibly for the indoor fish (Koi, Comets) to spend Summer outside, but then the scope (and pond) got bigger. Waterfall, rocks for frogs to sunbathe, and deep sections so fish could survive Winter. May 19, 2004 I got the idea to add local fauna to the pond in the form of a couple scoops of plants and bugs from a nearby vernal pool (i.e. roadside ditch). Enjoying water bugs and tadpoles noodling around I spotted a small clump of sticks ... moving.
Posted about it on my blog and a reader ID’d it as a Caddisfly Larva.
Flash forward to yesterday, checking out the frogs in our messy little pond, when a bundle of sticks walked by underwater.

Here's a photo of the caddisfly larva from 2004. Also some photos of the pond from its initial expansion to when the plants really started taking off. Years later the liner got a slow leak. It's one of those things where I don't want to dismantle the whole thing to fix it when it's full of tadpoles, but at the end of the season it's too cold.

relatively new backyard pond, waterfall on the left with 8x6’ or so main pond (3+ ft deep) on the right, up against a giant boulder
pond in the snowy winter, angle of shot showcases the height of waterfall
pond a few years later, with lily pads, lots of fish swimming around, and flowers and ferns around the perimeter
