Incredible drone footage of the Greenfield, IA tornado courtesy of Reed Timmer.

The drone was able to orbit through the outer circulation of the tornado capturing some of the best views I've ever seen of a multi-vortex tornado.

There's a lot that can be learned from this type of close-range footage. Includes a brief clip around 2:15 of a wind turbine being taken down by the outer wind field.

I wrote an opinion piece about Vermont's Data Privacy Act which is sitting on the Governor's desk while the big tech lobby pressures him not to sign it. Threaded here so people can read it and I don't just give you an image with a huge alt text wall.

I support Vermont Data Privacy Act a bill which has passed the House and Senate and is on its way to the Governor's desk. Vermonters deserve to be able to understand and control how their personal information is collected and used online [1/7]

This is a great article, and I am 100% delighted by their description of me!! "Lawler has been an academic Chicken Little for years about the danger of freefalling space shit, especially in a time when space travel has been privatized and so many bored billionaires would rather spend their money playing Spaceman Spiff than, say, solving world hunger or the climate crisis"

Got my Saturday list done!

Bicycled to the library
Bicycled to a garage sale
Bicycled to the store (solely to buy snacks for the pet rabbits 🤔)

Saw some fitness cyclers
A few kids on bikes
No adults doing any utilitarian cycling
Eight bazillion cars (Nobody walks/bikes in LA!)
Annoyed the clerks in a store asking them where the nearest bicycle rack was (answer: nowhere nearby)

ai6yr,

Observations: Although it's great the city here has added bicycle lanes, I personally think putting bicycle lanes on ALTERNATE ROUTES (not primary routes) would be a better way to entice people to ride. I find I am taking parallel (non-car intensive) routes INSTEAD OF BICYCLE LANES (on very high speed, car intensive routes) almost everywhere now.

This is a 15 second expose from my back garden, borderline Newcastle /Northumberland in the Tyne Valley. The slight jiggle in the star-trails makes me think the tripod may have had a slight wobble, but I really liked the shape... think I might have enough photos to keep my busy editing tomorrow! 😲

Straight out of Midland, Michigan, USA--just when you think you've heard it all. In the news: "Woman found living inside a Michigan grocery store sign".

Quote from article: "A woman in Midland had a novel approach to living rent-free: post up in a sign above a grocery store and turn it into a makeshift apartment."

Went out to feed the birds this a.m. & saw something "mounted" to a back porch support beam. Closer inspection revealed it was a very large . My ID app suggests Polyphemus moth (Antheraea polyphemus) with an average wingspan of 6". It was just chilling during the a.m. storms. I hoped it would open up but it just stayed motionless. It was quite dark so the pics aren't the best. Antennae are very cool!

Closeup photograph of a large moth's antennae and tufted head. An ID app suggests it is Antheraea polyphemus or the Polyphemus moth) with an average wingspan of 6 inches. The moth has large, tear-drop shaped, brownw antennae and a large body and legs covered by long brown hairs. Its wings are patterned and scalloped with grey and brown and it has a large brown "eye" on its outer wing that is surrounded by a narrow circle of light tan.

So the way I look at it, I’m a recovering alcoholic of 33 years, a reformed smoker of 20 years, a runner of 25 years who just finished my 248th race on Sunday, who isn’t planning to stop anytime soon…and I’ve had it really really good for a very long time. The victory is in showing up, the joy is…everywhere.
