they don't have anything more sophisticated than just watching human tv, they seem to be angling into the low end of the 'human' vs 'all powerful deity' axis. it seems like its species is a healer/bard species, he hasn't demonstrated any kind of weapons or cool fighting moves. i wouldn't be stressed about an invasion #monsterdon

the thing the venusians are worried about is that earth will start scooting its orbit around a little bit. that's the main conflict in the movie. and they are setting up the rest of the movie to just be them saying 'hey don't do that' when the leaders arrive. who greenlit this #monsterdon

An injury to one is an injury to all, its as simple as that. if you arent willing to have someone else's back when they need you, why would they ever look after yours? The thought that someone might violate foundational ethical principles like solidarity with the other people struggling alongside me to exist on this earth because they cant pull their head out of the academic rat race is incompatible with the way my mind works. It makes no sense.

I watched my employer do nothing for days as an odd alliance of far-right attackers predictably boiled over into arguably the worst mass violence that has happened on a university campus since kent state.

The next day I fought back as my employer welcomed three police departments into our workplace to shoot my colleagues in the head with rubber bullets, launch literally thousands of flashbang grenades directly above their heads, gas them, beat them, drag them across the concrete, and arrest them.

Then i have organized against them as they continue to police their way through any dissent, suspending, evicting, and again arresting often the very same colleagues who they just subjected to permanent injury and lifelong trauma.

The root of all this violence was how these colleagues took great risk for whatever small effect they could have to stop a genocide. They were organized, disciplined, loving, angry, and unspeakably brave. They acted out of a love for humanity. They are not antisemitic or hateful, i know them, they are crystal clear about opposing the actions of a political party driven by a far right ideology. We are talking about a decentralized agglomeration of mostly undergrads and graduate students - of course there were mistakes and problems - but they have moral clarity and courage that's in another dimension from where i was at their age.

I dont know how you could possibly have ignored that as it happened a few hundred yards from your lab, or not be willing to do whatever you could to protect both them and yourself from the maniacal violence of your employer after that.
