As we do some last packing away of the house clutter into the garage before the realtor photographer arrives, and thinking to our move out of Portland after 12 years, I think back to when my daughter was a small child here and whenever she drew our house she included gray rain clouds above instead of sun. 😂 #pdx
@johnmark@amye it's funny, the convergence between tech people I have known in my jobs in tech starting in 1996 and the related peer groups that were connected to them has been remarkable. EPRI, to VA (and you JM), to Flickr, Glitch, and the larger tech community in PDX, so much commonality.
Every new YouTube video I try has clearly had its script written or rewritten by ChatGPT and nobody in the comments ever seems annoyed by this. The future sucks so much
My poor Beanie baby had hives today. This was after her day at the spa… I mean vet. Her welts are still slightly visible. Knowing the provenance of dog allergies is harder to discover than knowing the mysteries surrounding the origin of the Sphinx.
@Axomamma Since she was having an active reaction they wanted to monitor her to be sure she didn't go into an anaphylactic shock. As there's an extreme shortage of vets in the metro here- lots retired here (and all over like doctors, dentists and pharmacists) during COVID- drop off appointments for an emergency are a dog-send. They are very good vets and they treat her well. She was treated with injections and monitored for about 5 hours. She is doing well now. :) 🐶
@Axomamma honestly do not know, she had an episode like this last year and nothing since then. Hence my joke about dog allergies being harder to discern than the mysteries of the Sphinx. Both dogs have skin issues, I can't manage an elimination diet right now, we're in the whirlwind of trying to get a move going.
Courtesy reminder. If moving to a different state, resist the urge to move your flat pack furniture. Just give that stuff away or it’ll be back to sawdust by the time your moving van has arrived at your destination.
@jimray if it was Ikea flatpack I was giving away it might, but it was more like junk from Target. 😂 (There are a few Ikea things that are going with us.)
Well this pissed me off. I watched this documentary about the forgotten Niuean soldiers who fought in WWI on behalf on New Zealand.
Many of them died of European diseases before they could even make it to the western front. The ones that did make it were accessories to white soldiers in the war. Their main duty was to dig trenches for them. https://youtu.be/9dNEkJsNmiA?feature=shared
@sipi it was at least gratifying to find some of the young men melted away when the recruiters came to get a couple hundred men for the war and avoided battle.
