OneDrive is unusable in Linux

Look into rclone mounts, assuming your org allows you to use rclone with OneDrive and SharePoint Online.

There’s also this open source, and commercial client, but I haven’t used them myself.

rclone mounts don’t download anything; they cache “hot” data, and you can tweak that behaviour.

So what’s the issue? Spin up your own instance and discuss whatever you want on it.

Yeah that kind of puts things in perspective, doesn’t it? Imaging building a career as a grocery clerk in a non-unionized environment. No way that could ever happen! I mean the fact that someone with basically a high school education can have a stable job for decades is… something.

This is gonna be a controversial take, but to be honest when PHP first started out, it’s killer feature was that it was a hypertext preprocessor. PHP is a Hypertext Preprocessor was the original recursive acronym (that was all the rage in the 90’s and early 2000’s). Arguably that feature also encouraged terrible coding practices, but I digress.

Nowadays PHP is a dime in a dozen managed, dual-personality OOP/procedural hybrid interpreted language.

So yeah, if I were to start a new project today, I would not choose PHP.

Moose sex pheromones. Hose the car down with them. Let nature take care of this one.

I’ve had a similar experience myself. I bought a Japanese handcrafted knife.

For starters, I just want to clarify that this isn’t a shot at OP, more so this is a criticism of the linked article.

So the article can be summarized as such:

  1. Ransomware is a problem
  2. There are Linux versions now.
  3. Some comments about Linux being on 3% of the desktops now. Not sure what the point of this was… since the author then says that Windows is still 80%?
  4. Linux servers are a much bigger/viable target, because the Internet runs on Linux, including financial sector, databases, “always on” systems, etc etc…
  5. Ends the article with generic best practices like “deploy modern EDR” and “proper backups”.

All in all, this article contributes very little in terms of informing the reader or making any sort of original or insightful claim.

Ditto. I’ve been using the Voyager PWA and Memmy, and in terms of features and stability, I’d have to admit that Thunder has overtaken both.

What strikes me about these comics is what a difference the choice of words makes.

I voted B. In terms of suitability for an icon, I think B is best.

I’m looking for a self hosted solution to this problem:

I want to create a full text search index from a collection of PDF manuals (text, not images, I don’t care about OCR here). There is a UI to search for text matches in documents, and clicking a search hit opens the PDF scrolled to where the search hit is (bonus points if the search hit is hilighted)

I haven’t used any of these, but I wonder if any of the self-hosted open source document management platforms would serve your purpose? Something like PaperMerge or similar?

Getting Over a Breakup

How have you successfully gotten over a breakup? I did not end the relationship and it was the most significant of my life. I feel confused and trying to understand why. I’m not sleeping well and my anxiety has decided to resurface. I’m ruminating. I don’t have many people to go to about this. Please don’t say I will...

Trying to understand why will cause you even more pain. My advice: treat it as a funeral/loss of a loved one. The time has simply come. Do your mourning and move on. Dwelling on it will only cause my pain and reopen old wounds.

I think using Brave, just by virtue of ad blocking, probably isn’t worse than using Safari. I use Brave on iOS myself.

Looks like a nice low end desktop distro. Is it Debian based?

No one product, but more of a collection of technologies underlying the Apple ecosystem. For example, AirDrop or Continuity (drafting something on one device and continuing/finishing on another).

Look at Keychron or GMMK. OneofZero has a sale (25% off) Keychrons.

Mindblowing! So much for advancing and protecting the interests of the field. It’s scary that some of these associations are also regulators!
