Download the image again and/or try a different pendrive, different hole on computer.

Check MD5 sums of downloaded ISO if they provide you a sum on the webpage

it seems the internet has been geared towards people that think you have to ask the computer a question instead of searching for key words like how it used to work.

I mean, this is what we see/read in sci-fi series and movies at least since the 60’s.

I don’t know if this memory of mine is real, or just a (day)dreaming or my brain just fucks with me, or just too much acid, but I clearly remember lots of years ago I opened GIMP and the splash screen had this fox IN A FUCKING GIMP SUIT!

Make her life a living hell. Make the company also notice, that there’s something isn’t just right, but it won’t work if you won’t make a scene. But only if they are satisfied with your work.

welp, I still need to add myself to the sudo group and sudoers file, and that’s something I need a root shell for. (unless I always miss some options during setup to make my user automatically a sudoer)

kuneho,
@kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

I mean it’s Debian, it’s stable, it should work without ever updating your system :P

(though one could always log in as root in a separate session, too…)

kuneho,
@kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

editing files in a root desktop session with a GUI editor does count as cheating in this case?

kuneho,
@kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

oh wow, I did not know this

but that’s a pretty unusual setup

Nor this, but you are right if I think about it.

I used mostly Windows systems primarily and I guess I just adapted that habit of having an Administrator account for when shit goes down, and my own user account that has admin rights.

It’s just convenient. I liked my Administrator account as clean as possible, and I do the same in Linux with root. There is its time and place where I need root.

But you are right, I should change my habits. I’m not even sure how sudo and rights and environments and sessions and god knows what works exactly behind the scenes, so probably, maybe, there are technical differences too in the way I use these and the way how I should… I don’t know.

Anyway, thanks for the info.

My choice is Connect for Lemmy. (on Android)

Tried out a few; Voyager, Sync (for Reddit, it was the best), Jeroba and god knows what else, but Connect was the one that actually felt right.

it’s a nice little Flutter app. it feels native (sort of) to Android. The other apps were strange to me, cause they have more of iOS UI or else, or they arw PWAs or else…

The reason why I don’t use Sync is because it had strange bugs and was limited a while ago (compared to Sync for Reddit, also my purchase of it obviously lost), also has ads n shit, which is fine, understandable, if the dev would like to earn money with it, it’s a cool and complex app, it worth the money.

isn’t the 10th movie is Nemesis? but I’m glad you added the title as well to clarify it’s not that what you had in mind, because Nemesis… well… definitely exists, that’s for sure.

oh man, this song…

I can’t tell how many times did I listen to this with my father and discuss it.

Probably my fav. Offspring song, too. and also a really steong contester for “the best intro” award, next to Enter Dog of Pavlov by Soilwork.

MisterMoo, to firefox

Dear @firefox : Please stop saving images as webp when I drag them out of the browser. Forever stop that. Even if they are webp originally, just give me a setting to auto-convert them to JPEG. When I get a webp file the first thing I have to do is convert it manually if I'm going to do anything with it.

fortunately, since you use Firefox, there are a handful of extensions available just for this problem already. Maybe not for the drag n drop, though…

kuneho,
@kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

funny thing is, for some reason, it just… never came to me to just drag images from the browser and save them like that 😅, but surely sounds a logical and convenient thing to do, so I can see your frustration

In Hungarian it’s the same with “home” in particular. You say “I’m home.”. In Hungarian, I too say the exact same thing: “Otthon vagyok” (I’m home).

Your other two example works the same, you won’t say in Hungarian “I’m school” (Iskola vagyok (it means I am literally a school)). But you say “IskoláBAN vagyok” (I’m at school) or “PostÁN vagyok” (I’m at the post office. Notice the suffix in this case is completely different, but that’s another story of Hungarian)

kuneho,
@kuneho@lemmy.world avatar

okay, so this means the word ‘home’ is actually special accross languages 😆.

and not neccessairly the home as homeland like haza in hungarian ('cause that’s not even a noun (tho it is somewhat equivalent with home)), home like… your home.

Yeah, though I was like this is some behind the scenes or dvd extras material for this thread :P
