@icedquinn States loves to tax themselves.

(Like for example public services tend to end up with VAT when buying products)

I feel like the more I interact with Unix the more I want a different operating system.

But the annoying bit is I'd rather not make my own and sadly most operating systems are unix-like.

Gah why does the libc not have path manipulation.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@psykose @chozu Too sad copium already got claimed by lnl for chromium, would make a good name for a C library :D

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

Also dammit, I want string slices almost everytime I end up doing string manipulation.

Fucking unix.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@psykose Nah, even hell wouldn't want C++.

lunareclipse, to random

it's really funny how the chain of trust with TLS CAs is built in such a way where the security of the entire system is equal to the security of the worst CA your web browser trusts

maybe I shouldn't learn more about how the web works, this is all so cursed

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@navi @lunareclipse Well TOFU is neat, except for server-to-arbitrary-server.
Which is probably why one of the only actual use of DANE is email (DNSSEC being a bit more trustworthy than X.509, but sadly horrible in terms of error handling).

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@navi @lunareclipse Plus in the case where it's reasonable to expect different servers, I'd say TOFU lowers security because you'd have to copy private keys around (which should never happen), not to even mention that it tends to make you avoid rotating keys.
It's why for me TOFU is only good for things like ssh.

lanodan,

@kaia I guess that makes sense given they've been trying to shove AI to people since Tegra.

lanodan,
@lanodan@queer.hacktivis.me avatar

@ignaloidas @Miaourt Even beyond implementation design: Parsing a C header can effectively only be done by a C Compiler (Go got bitten hard by this many times) and in some cases the same C Compiler as the one used for compiling it. Gotta love people not making the public headers pretty much static.

And yeah I've done my fair share of JSON over HTTP/TCP/socket/pipe/… it's fine for batch/timesharing things but if you ever need something with a tiny bit of real-time, you're screwed.
