lars,

Jesus Christ I guess I’m not misremembering.

Bing’s reverse image search is essentially dead in 2024 unless you’re uploading the Mona Lisa. It’s really, really terrible and even worse than Google.

My favorites right now are Tineye, Yandex, and Google, in that order.

lars,

Sounds a little suss. All the propaganda I see about Latin mentions its free word order.

lars,

There was a time when my computers would beg me for a mercy kill, but these days, not so much.

I have amblyopia. Is this accurate? (lemmy.sdf.org)

I have amblyopia—also known as lazy eye—which means I often see a bit of double vision—usually a sliver duplicated on the outside side of one of my eyes, even when I’m wearing contacts, and even though I don’t look like I have a lazy eye. My eyes definitely don’t work in concert and I’m told my 3D vision resembles...

lars,

My “lazy” eye now actually has better vision than the eye I actually use. The lazy eye is just for show.

I had surgery at like 5 years old and I’m told it helped at least as much as the eyepatches.

lars,

You weren’t a baby?

lars,

WOW. I can’t imagine the fear.

I also feel like it’s impossible to learn about the lost sensitivity: in the half dozen posts I have seen over the years about non-babies being circumcised, they say the sensitivity lost isn’t as much as we circumcised suspect it was. I’m not doubting you. I just wish I knew what the proper amount of resentment about my parents having chosen this is.

lars,

Two languages stacked up wearing a French coat

lars,

I object get to your object being in the gutter to the sewer with the sewers

lars,

To my surprise, I have heard a lot of French people say English is easy to learn.

lars,

I’m pretty sure they’re all heteronyms in spoken English and make sense only if you use two pronunciations of the duplicated word.

lars,

Just because we Americans pronounce everything with no clarity after the first syllable does not mean our ancient and ridiculous spelling, which may have worked for pre-Norman Saxons, is not complex.

Our verbs though are fucking baller. Almost no conjugation in most of them. And we have to be one of the few languages in the world where the present tense is not conjugated except for the third person singular (I go; you go; we go; they go; but he/she/it go𝑒𝑠).

lars,

Because we barely pronounce anything compared to Romances

lars,

Omg those ads of yore never said the trick actually worked

lars,

Are we sure everyone must:

  • have a license to fish, but also
  • have the unencumbered right to have as many kids as they like?

The screenshot parent is running a human puppy mill.

lars,

Same with QAnon lately…

Makes me wonder what stereotypes we have of the two groups they would contest.

Exactly the opposite thing happened with Queer: there was nothing wrong with it and it is being reclaimed.

lars,

How am I to build any skills at all when my only motivation is procrastination?

lars,

Idgaf what they thought.

Didn’t they own people and commit treason??

lars,

The protester seems kinda antisemitic for failing to disavow Hamas and Islam and the Ayatollah and not mentioning that Jewish people have a right to be alive.

lars,

I love Texans but when I worked telephones when I was younger, only the most awful people were exactly the kinds of Texans you’re describing. Maybe it was because we were strangers but there is a part of me that’s still terrified, especially of Dallas people, because of it.
