Can you imagine the response if Congress passed a law that said you must complete “voter training” prior to each election before being allowed to vote? Because we all know that there are lots of voters who know absolutely nothing about the people and issues they are voting on, simply voting as their party wishes. And what if the voter had to pay for that training? Do we set aside the Bill of Rights for the overall good of the country?
I get that there is a big problem with shootings. But these gun control measures do nothing other than make politicians points with their constituents. Live in a state that bans assault weapons and >10 round magazines? Go to a state without those restrictions and buy what you want - if you’re going to commit a crime, why care that you are breaking the law by doing so? Anyone with a little mechanical skill, a hobby lathe, and a 3D printer can manufacture a fully automatic gun. And imagine the carnage if an unbalanced person waited for a windy day, stole a gasoline tanker, fitted it with an electric pump and nozzles, then started a huge wildfire just upwind of a major city. Take away guns and the crazies will turn to other means of carrying our their killing spree.
Want a real solution? That’s going to cost you. Universal mental health care, free education and job training, and programs to find “loners”, who are involved in most mass shootings, then evaluate their risk to the public and themselves.
The Republican stance on abortion would not be so popular among its female supporters if they realize that they could be charged with child endangerment for not getting prenatal care, not eating or sleeping well, or engaging in any risky behaviors - from the moment of conception.
We’ve always had bigots. We always will. In the past, bigoted business behavior has resulted in opportunity for those who are willing to serve the clients the bigots won’t. Minorities understand this, and minority-friendly businesses prospered.
I can understand being upset that a business won’t accept you as a customer. What I don’t understand is why anyone would still insist on supporting that offensive business with their patronage. I’d be spreading the word about their practices, asking folks to boycott them.

All I can suggest is to read many sources. Keep a mental tally sheet. See which sources correct themselves when they are proven wrong. Note how often they present provably false information. Try to look up the original source material (some will misquote or distort to advance their agenda). Look for widespread corroboration from other sources. After a while you’ll know how each spins their information, how well they vet their material, and their overall journalistic integrity. That will allow you to rank credibility.
Misinformation often has only one source, and that source will usually have a history of misinformation or extreme bias.

What seems to be impossible is to locate businesses, their employees, and stores geographically close together. I have lots of friends who drive over an hour each way for work. I used to drive 30 minutes to my job. Now my wife and i work from home and for the first time in my life we have only one car. But there’s no way we could go without a car. Family lives 120 miles away. Groceries are 10 miles, and other necessities are 26 miles. The US was laid out to require personal vehicles. It’s too spread out to have a functioning mass transit system that’s convenient to use.
Using the such a system in the US, even if convenient, has risks. During the peak of COVID, many riders refused to wear masks. There’s no security, no hygiene or conduct standards for riders (try to sit next to a crazy homeless person or someone higher than a kite for 45 minutes), and when you try to get help from law enforcement, nobody shows up.

Everyone gets hung up on guns for killing. I’ve shot tens of thousands of rounds and haven’t killed a thing because I shoot competitively. It’s like Zen Buddhists who shoot the bow and arrow, another weapon designed to kill. It is an exercise of mind and body.

Not only Kentucky. I live in a rural California town of around 2000 people. There are no sidewalks except for the 1/4 mile in front of the elementary school, and that wasn’t built until a kid was hit by a car 6 years ago. Last year a 4th grader was killed by a drunk driver walking home from school on the main road through town - which has no sidewalk. Most of us drive our kids to and from school now, particularly since an attempted abduction happened earlier this year. Bus service is available, but costs $185 a year per child and requires being at the stop an hour before school starts. My daughter won’t let her kids walk the 1/4 mile to the bus stop unattended. Not in these times. I think the bus may become even more unpopular since the special ed driver was arrested last week for molesting kids.

Just because it’s unconstitutional doesn’t stop the government from doing whatever it wants to its citizens if someone thinks they can justify/get away with it. Government entities have a long history of doing what they want regardless of what the Constitution says. Sherman’s March to the Sea, the interment of Japanese Americans, nuclear weapons testing in the Pacific Ocean, the Tuskegee Experiment, the MOVE bombing in Philadelphia, etc… The Constitution is just pieces of paper. Its power comes from those willing - and able - to enforce it.
