lemmyreader,

Right. The energy of the growing numbers of Linux Evangelists could save the planet!

lemmyreader,

A paste bin is maybe what you want. Yunohost uses this software for their own github.com/toptal/haste-serverThe about page of the Yunohost paste bin shows how it can look like : paste.yunohost.org/about.md

Other options possibly here : alternativeto.net/software/hastebin/?license=open…

lemmyreader,

Yes, I’d like to file an official complaint. What’s the P.O.Box number to post it too ? :-) On a more serious note, for OP @GFGJewbacca and others, Garuda Linux turns out to have their own Lemmy instance : lemmy.garudalinux.org and well as a community here : lemmy.ml/c/garudalinux Have fun!

lemmyreader,

Garuda goes for the looks and the gamers I would say. I’ve tried Garuda before and it was nice that it was possible to roll-back installation versions but on my ancient test hardware it didn’t go too well, also not with rolling back. Manjaro got quite some bad press in the past for good reasons. Here you can compare a few descriptions for all of them :

One notable difference between the three is that Manjaro has a delayed package release. It is not as rolling as the others.

lemmyreader,

Fish shell FTW! :) fishshell.com

lemmyreader,

Why would you use Linux when you literally sync your todos in plain text to big brother?

Well. Linus Torvalds himself is or was using Google Gmail, and with the popularity and dependency on smart phones it is not that surprising to see lots of Linux maintainers and developers use Google products. Heck, the famous Ken Thompson even works for Google.

lemmyreader,

They’re running out of names. I would not mind them using the Ubuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog) name from 2004 for future releases.

lemmyreader,

Yes. Debian uses words like Milestone and freeze : release.debian.org/bullseye/freeze_policy.htmlUbuntu uses the word Beta.

lemmyreader,

Insightful. Your comment made me smile :)

lemmyreader,

I used to associate btrfs with the word unreliable for years based on what I’ve read here and there, while ext4 appears to be rock solid. Pointing to sources for this is not easy though. Here’s a start.

See Features and Caveats here for Btrfs : wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Btrfs#Features

For Ext4 wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Ext4

ext4 (fourth extended file system) is an open source disk filesystem and most recent version of the extended series of filesystems. It is the primary file system in use by many Linux systems rendering it to be arguably the most stable and well tested file system supported in Linux.

lemmyreader,

Thanks for that! which made me read en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ext3#ext4 Maybe high time for myself to learn more about ZFS.

lemmyreader,

It’s not a new thing.

lemmyreader,

That reminds me that some howtos I’ve seen in the past recommended to use ext2 for a separate /boot partition.

What distro should I use on my potato?

I have an HP Stream 11 that I want to use for word processing and some light web browsing - I’m a writer and it’s a lightweight laptop to bring to the library or coffee shop to write on. Right now it’s got Windows and it’s unusable due to lack of hard drive space for updates. Someone had luck with Xubuntu, but it’s...

lemmyreader,

For the record. OpenRC is the default on Alpine Linux, which is probably run on millions of Docker installations.

lemmyreader,

You probably had to click on the animal which has no fur. For example click on the one turtle image as opposed to the five cow images.

lemmyreader,

If you set up MX records inside your intranet you can go for a really simple setup with postfix. www.postfix.org/VIRTUAL_README.html#localAfter that you should be able to use mutt on the command line via ssh on your postfix virtual server to read the email. If you want webmail though, things will take more time and reading howtos ;-)
