I don’t care how many downvotes this post gets because every time I post something about Islam, I get people commenting and reporting the same dumb shit. For example, on my previous post were the meme said that “Islam is not the religion of peace”. We had a user report that meme for being hate speech. Really, have you guys...
Neither of those two memes you just linked to are about religion or criticising the Islamic religion, they’re both unoriginal, tired takes on trying to equate muslims with terrorism.
Do you post memes about violent attacks by christians? Or Judaists? Or Hindus? Or Bhuddists? Or is it just the Muslims you save that for?
Are all their apps/backend open source? They have a github repo but it’s not very clear what’s open source or if its partial open source or what. I think it’s just their mail app and windows desktop app.
If that is this case, they’re asking their users to have a lot of trust in them.
Take it from someone with now adult kids - telling a child they’re forbidden something or shouldn’t learn about it is an absolute guarantee they’ll do it.
I think now is a great time to remind everyone, like sync’s developer, Lemmy’s developers need to be paid too! The amount of time all the devs put into making lemmy exist, in my opinion, should be worth some of your money. If you can afford it, donating to the people who develop lemmy and/or the people keeping your home...
If you want to use Sync, be my guest, I’m glad you’ve found an app you like. I genuinely don’t care what app anyone uses. Also, if you want to share your love of an app with others, feel free to do that too.
But - and try to hear this - hijacking a thread which is about making sure Lemmy gets developed (without which your app won’t work) and supporting instances (without which your app won’t work) to say how much you love your app is beyond crass.
They might contribute to an existing instance sure, but I doubt they’d host. There’s no real financial incentive for the profit driven to host a Lemmy instance unless they charge for membership and I doubt even Sync users are naive enough to pay twice for something.

I downvoted the post because the point it’s making is far too generic. All Abrahamic religions are violent, either historically, currently or both and if you say that to them, all members of the religion in question will get angry. At least the christianity memes are targeting an attribute that’s particular to that religion (creationism, the ridiculousness of the trinity etc).
If someone posted an Islam meme that was a critique of an aspect of that religion that was particular to just that religion it’d probably get more traction. As it is, this just feels like an excuse to infer Islam is more violent than the other two.
No doubt, but he’s very likely going to be the next PM. Even if the current proposed legislation doesn’t get through the Lords or get scrapped or not implemented before the Tories get booted out, he clearly sees this sort of bill as a good thing and will introduce his own.
Apple has said planned changes to British surveillance laws could affect iPhone users’ privacy by forcing it to withdraw security features, which could ultimately lead to the closure of services such as FaceTime and iMessage in the UK.
I’m pretty sure that’s the end-game, yes. At least as far as communication based tools go, which would include chat apps, VPN’s, cloud storage etc etc. The ruling classes in the UK are very nanny-state and genuinely believe that a persons right to privacy comes a distant second to being able to rule over us and control us more effectively.
The issue for non-UK countries is that when world governments see that its possible to pass these sort of laws, they’ll be keen to do the same. And most people are not tech-savvy, they’ll have no real idea why it’s important or invasive. It’s difficult enough to get people to switch to Signal. Imagine trying to explain why breaking encryption is a bad thing for them.
I’ve been loving Lemmy and mastodon and feel they are coming along as good replacements for Reddit and Twitter. Outside the fediverse, I occasionally enjoy posting dumb little video shorts and I put them on TikTok, Facebook and Insta because I have friends, family and followers on each. It really depends on your intention…if you intend to just interact with (for example) Mastodon users that appear occasionally in the Lemmy communities you’re a part of then there’s no need at all. Or if you want to communicate occasionally with a Mastodon (or any other type of software) user then you could use their Mastodon handle to do so - for example go to the Search box on your Lemmy instance and type in @Mastodon (which is the ‘official’ Mastodon account on the mastodon.social server but it can be any handle) wait for a few seconds (or longer depending on the speed of the server) and the user account with the ability to private message them appears. There are currently some issues but it used to be possible to post directly to a Mastodon user’s timeline from Lemmy. Mastodon users can post to Lemmy. It’s worth remembering that Mastodon is a LOT more mature as a product than Lemmy, which is still in its infancy.
For now, at least, Id say if you’re looking to spend a lot of time on each different software type then register an account at an instance of it. The integration will come, but the fediverse is young, Lemmy in particular is very young so it’ll take time.
Not sure the author of this piece really understands the concept of privacy.
If I choose to post something to any service - a Lemmy instance, Twitter, a Mastodon instance, FB, reddit - whatever. I’m making the choice to share that info.
A privacy invasion is when that service uses the personal data I’ve supplied in creating a profile/account and the meta data I created along with it and bundles it all up to create a shadow profile of me which they then use to serve me ads or sell to 3rd parties etc. That’s why using Meta products or reddit or twitter or just about any commercially owned service is a privacy invading nightmare and why the fediverse isn’t.
