.world hasn’t defederated from either of these two instances. They’ve blocked .world users from accessing those 3 communities from .world. You, as a .world user can still access any community across those 2 instances, aside from the 3 mentioned. Any users on those instances can still access .world communities.
I’m not an expert on the quran by any means but, by comparison, the old testament tells believers to stone sinners to death. Not all christians follow that belief and I struggle to believe every muslim believes it’s right to kill jews.
Conversely, I’ve yet to meet or hear of a Nazi who takes a moderate line on the existence of Jews.
For the first weekend since the end of lockdown I have absolutely zero plans which to me translates as: weekend with my nose in a book, ordering take out.
I think now is a great time to remind everyone, like sync’s developer, Lemmy’s developers need to be paid too! The amount of time all the devs put into making lemmy exist, in my opinion, should be worth some of your money. If you can afford it, donating to the people who develop lemmy and/or the people keeping your home...
For me, the fuss, in this thread is about Sync users inexplicable need to jump into a thread about supporting Lemmy development and keeping instances afloat with comments about how much they love Sync.
You’re absolutely correct. Anyone can enjoy any app they like and either pay for it or not.
But coming into a thread about ways to ensure Lemmy gets the support it needs to develop and instances get the support they need to keep going to tell everyone how much you love your app is infantile.
NLnet aren’t crystal clear but I think they see their role as getting something up and running rather than continued funding, which is fair enough. Trying to support a multitude of projects indefinitely isn’t really feasible. At some point I feel it’s justified to ask users of the project (i.e. us) to support future work.
I don’t think anyone can realistically suggest that any group of people is 100% pedo-free. There are pedo priests, pedo cops, pedo mums, pedo traffic wardens etc etc so there is going to be a non-zero amount of drag artists that are pedos simply by virtue of the fact that pedos exist unfortunately.
I don’t agree that the spirit of this meme is suggesting no drag artist has ever hurt a child and I think it’s pretty fair to say, based on the data that does exist (poor quality though it is) that drag artists, as a group of people, are extremely low on the offending against kids front.
The arguments being used by some to suggest drag artists, as a group, are dangerous to kids (and I’m not suggesting you’re one of the people doing this) could be applied to any group of people that come into contact with any other group of people. I mean, Dennis Rader used to be a census taker - does that mean census takers as a group are fair game to be treated as likely to murder people by torture?
I’m not basing my opinion on your point of view. I’m basing it on the opinion that any organisation that makes claims about strong privacy but doesn’t allow people to check their work is essentially saying ‘just trust me bro’.
Apple has said planned changes to British surveillance laws could affect iPhone users’ privacy by forcing it to withdraw security features, which could ultimately lead to the closure of services such as FaceTime and iMessage in the UK.
My dad used to do this thing where he would pronounce any word ending in ‘es’ to ‘EZ’ so an innocuous work like ‘plates’ became ‘plat-EZ’. He extended this over time to any word with a plural so ‘roads’ for example became ‘road-EZ’. According to family lore, this started at a terrible Italian restaurant before I was born.
It’s impossible to not at least allude to the fact it exists in this context really. It’s either that or say ‘there seems to be no reason why chippies are closing’ which is clearly untrue.
So basically I decided to move my mastodon account to Calckey. But I don’t know how to subscribe to hashtags. Is it even possible? Can somebody help please?
No, they wouldn’t. They’d just own some servers. And in the meantime, other instances would appear. To own the fediverse you’d have to completely control every web server in existence, halt production on new web servers and somehow find a way to make open source software licenses invalid, buy then patent, then remove all the existing fediverse software types, somehow repeal ActivityPub as a standard and then make it all illegal across the entire world.
It seems like rumours and suspicions have solidified today. So I was genuinely interested to see who was presenting the 10 o’clock news this evening – and how the current BBC-related story was covered.
I honestly wouldn’t trust The Sun if they reported grass was green.
I’d assume the Police will at least want to interview the young man but if he continues to deny it all I guess we’ll never hear the man officially be named.
Well, I’m not sure it’s anything as nefarious as that. I don’t think instance admins are hoping for a big payout from Zuck. BUt the fact that that idea exists as a possibility is both saddening and would be an impossibility with the fediverse as it is right now.
