[Opinion] About Lemmy

Hi guys. This is not going to be a long post and I will briefly explain why I didn’t like Lemmy and going straight back to Reddit.

  1. Lemmy is not a likable name.
  2. There are so much socialists/communists around, including Lemmy’s founders. Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities.
  3. Every app I tried is buggy.
  4. Lemmy world usually experiences connection problems.
  5. Content is not likable enough. I’m reading Reddit to relax, laugh and chill. Lemmy can’t provide that yet. Memes here are generally low effort.

That’s all and thanks anyway! Catch y’all later!

@ananesiken "I can't adapt to change so therefore I refuse to, and will publicly announce it as I do so."

K bye, this content isn't helping the lack of good content.

Kbin "fixes" 1 and 2 lol

Stay your ass at Reddit then. Problem solved for everyone.

Very_Bad_Janet,

OP, if you are being sincere, you can give kbin a try. I'm writing this to you from kbin.social. You can subscribe to many different communities in Lemmy and magazines in Kbin and see them all in your kbin Subscribed feed. I have more content than I know what to do with.

If that doesn't work for you, you could also try Squabbles, which has groups instead of communities and seems likable and very general interest.

This is the most reddit post it's almost satirical.

CombatWombatEsq,

3, 4 and 5 are all legit problems, but the community is working on it, and they’ll get better. 1 and 2 are features, not bugs.

One question:

If you do not like it here then why are you here?

Content is decent/ good, certainly it is not as much as Reddit but hey - Lemmy is just getting started. While Reddit has been there for what? 7 years? Longer?

buddhabound,

My reddut account was from 2012. 2010 is when digg died and reddit took off more. So, reddit had 13 years to develop its content flow. This person couldn’t stay around 13 weeks to see what Lemmy could be.

HipPriest,

There are so much socialists/communists around, including Lemmy’s founders. Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities.

I call bs on this. This is just regurgitation of 'common knowledge'. The creators of the code had tanky beliefs and that has no bearing on the vast majority of the content.

What I find is there's a lot of privacy hardliners to the point where I'm scared to admit that I like using Chrome as my browser in case I get lynched. But I've joined/lurked on a lot of communities (and how is that a communist word?!?) and not so far seen anything turn into a debate about socialism/communism.

But bye bye.

Join kbin instead!

Nah, I at least would prefer if they didn't lol.

If OP dislikes "community" they're definitely going to bitch about magazines and start whining to try and get KBin to be more similar to Reddit. I think we're better off with them going back to R.

That is true.. However if the OP is mainly disappointed in the communist and the developers of Lemmy. Then he/she is welcome to try the kbin and it's community. Assuming he/she can also be nice and friendly.

ananesiken,

Hi! I just deleted my account and saw that still logged in so here is me posting a comment.

Maybe you can join a social media platform where each subsection is called "The glorious individualist capitalist struggle of ________".

(And Lemmy's original programmers, not those in every signle instance, are totalitarian authoritarians, not communists.)

It's hard to take this seriously if you're talking issue with the word "community".

amio,

K bye? Like, you do you - not sure what anyone else is going to do with this information. You are right about this place being a glitchy mess, it's fairly new after all. The rest of the points are not particularly good ones.

BananaTrifleViolin,

Just on the "There are so much socialists/communists around, including Lemmy’s founders. Even the ‘subreddits’ called communities."

You really need to learn to tolerate and listen to the views of people you disagree with. Just cutting those voices out entirely and not wanting to hear them really is putting yourself into an echo chamber. You are an individual - don't fall into the trap of thinking you need to belong to a "group" and agree with all the thoughts in that group and disagree with all the thoughts outside that group. It's important that you are open to being challenged and hearing other peoples world views, even if yours is ultimately unchanged. Otherwise you'll just be a sheep thinking how others are directing you to think.

Also, the idea that the word "community" is socialist/communist is the most rediculous thing I've read in a while.
