linux,

@nextcloud
Have you committed to keeping the app interfaces stable and standardized yet, such that app developers will no longer feel unwelcome by having to chase moving targets as Nextcloud versions change?

Apps like News, Social, and PicoCMS were good ideas, but they've become abandonware because you didn't follow best development practices, and you broke them. The Nextcloud app ecosystem is poorer without these apps, and cluttered with these abandonware carcasses, scaring devs away.

linux,

@nextcloud
Have you fixed this bug yet?

https://github.com/nextcloud/social/issues/1871

If not, please warn your users that they should not update their Nextcloud installations if they run this app, or it will corrupt their database and leave Nextcloud unusable!

That's a pretty glaring and painful bug, so I think lots of loud warnings are warranted until it's fixed.

Is there a version of FourSquare / Swarm for the Fediverse?

I want to check in to a specific location and share that online. Not looking for badges and mayors etc.

Just a geotagged post saying "I am here".

linux,

@Edent
Does 's "Map" app do this?

I use their "phone track" app so the users I choose to share with can see where I am and where I've been, but "Map" might give a more straightforward one-shot location-and-timestamp service like you're seeking. Maybe check that out.

A great idea or sacrilege? We test a Jaguar E-Type converted to EV

Electrogenic's powertrain suits the 1960s sports car, but this is no restomod.

linux,

@arstechnica These conversions seem to be widely-liked. I don't understand why EV companies aren't building them at least a little like this from the factory.

Instead, we get the Hyundai Ioniq 5 with its pre-bashed-in-doors, the Toyota BX-whatever with its clown-car two-tone paint job, and the BMW EVs with their Bugs Bunny buck teeth.

Why do the manufacturers hate us so much? Why does every EV have to have fatal design flaws, rather than just electrifying what we already like?

Updated Debian 12: 12.1 released https://www.debian.org/News/2023/20230722

linux,

@debian Hoping for new Raspberry Pi images. can I request network-manager to be included? Resolving dependencies to install it manually without a network is extremely difficult!

The next Mazda MX-5 Miata might be an electric vehicle

The next MX-5 is a couple of years away and will have some kind of e-motor.

linux,

If they make it a complete BEV (no hybrid) with at least 200 miles of range and under $40,000, I'd be an interested customer!

Except, Mazda has never achieved anything like that before, so it almost certainly won't be. Shame. I'd buy today, if they could do it.
