livejamie,

IIRC Violentacerz modded like 50 different porn subreddits, and he did a goob job by moderation standards so he was appreciated by the admins for being the overseer of the porny side of reddit.

livejamie,

Good link, thanks.

People are trying to act like he got the award for only moderating jailbait are wrong.

livejamie,

Discord is pretty great for video/voice chat - the things it tries to do outside of that can be frustrating.

It's miles ahead of having to use Ventrillo, Teamspeak, Skype like we had to in the past.

livejamie,

It's the defacto way many communities stick around and communicate with each other, especially in the gaming world.

livejamie,

Most of the subs I'm active in haven't moved and probably won't be :(

[Texas] Gov. Greg Abbott vetoes bill that would give people with disabilities new option to vote by mail (www.texastribune.org)

Gov. Greg Abbott on Saturday vetoed a bipartisan bill that would have expanded vote-by-mail access for people with disabilities — specifically people who are blind or paralyzed and need assistance marking their ballot.

livejamie,

I thought Trump was really unpopular with Utah Mormons?

livejamie,

Yeah, people would make Obama and spez mods of their subs for the lulz; it's a disingenuous rumor to lie to spread about a person who has plenty of shitty things about him that people can discuss.

Justice Samuel Alito Took Luxury Fishing Vacation With GOP Billionaire Who Later Had Cases Before the Court (www.propublica.org)

In early July 2008, Samuel Alito stood on a riverbank in a remote corner of Alaska. The Supreme Court justice was on vacation at a luxury fishing lodge that charged more than $1,000 a day, and after catching a king salmon nearly the size of his leg, Alito posed for a picture. To his left, a man stood beaming: Paul Singer, a...

livejamie,

Alito seems untouchable, there are dozens of stories like this about him and his wife.

livejamie,

I'm so glad I chose this instance, keep up the fantastic work.

📢Entire mod team on r/mildlyinteresting (and more subs) removed and locked out of their accounts after changing their rules upon community's request. (They're also switching subs BACK to SFW)

EDIT: GO DM MODS OF YOUR FAVORITE SUBREDDITS AND POLITELY ASK ABOUT MIGRATION!: something as simple as "Hey, I love this community but I no longer use reddit, will you guys be making a community on Kbin or other alternatives? Let me know please, thanks." will work!! We need more voices encouraging migration!...

livejamie,

Myspace, Livejournal, Facebook, Digg, Twitter, Reddit

livejamie,

r/redditrequest is full of people excited to do so, people on a crusade to "restore" "vandalized" communities

livejamie,

The tree of whispers is the best waypoint for most situations unless you need an Occultist.

livejamie, (edited )

Taking a cursory look at the top 3 it looks like they're trying to remove people but I don't know if there's a way for them to do it in bulk:

It also seems like they're banning a lot of the same names/accounts, a lot of rabbitea.rs accounts seem to show up.

livejamie,

Seems like a consequence of beehaw's actions

livejamie,

You're describing the reasoning behind the decision. The fact that this is a consequence of that decision remains the same.

livejamie,

I think it’s disingenuous to isolate the decision from the context as if it were made unprompted.

There's nothing in my comment to suggest that, and I think you're projecting here.

it comes across as if you are blaming the admins for something you don’t like - if that’s not your intent, then what is ?

I think many unintended consequences occurred from the defederation, and this situation is an excellent tangible example of that.

livejamie,

I'm not sure why you're so defensive about it, but ok?

livejamie,

I've mostly moved to Lemmy because kbin is a one person project and app support is going to take a long time.

livejamie,

Comments like this are why I'm glad we have downvotes enabled here

My own domain?

Currently I’m with lemmy.world, but if i wanted to create my own, to run at my house, would I need to register a domain? I like the idea of having my own domain but also don’t know how the storage works… like if I post to my own, sure it gets stored, but if I post to somewhere on lemmy.world, where does it get stored?

livejamie,

The overwhelming amount of content is distributed among lemmy.ml, lemmy.world and beehaw.org - whether these instances like it or not.

Is the expectation that every popular instance has its communities for general-purpose stuff?

Do we need a technology@beehaw.org, technology@lemmy.world, technology@lemmy.tf, etc? That fragmentation seems like a nightmare for the average user and for adoption in general.
