For me a lot of what is aggravating about UK trains is the total contempt they have for their customers, expressed often and casually.

For instance, running trains 4 cars short in the rush hour with only vague hand wavy excuses (translation it would cost money for them not to)

And this morning, train crews blocking 50%+ of the car park with zero warning or alternatives and taking up a bunch of spaces unnecessarily.

Contempt.

What these fucking cowards don't get is that if we don't stop Putin in Ukraine, it'll be a fucking NATO country next.

Because if he pushes and the west immediately or eventually capitulates, what's to stop him?

Will we really have a strategic nuclear war? Or just let me conquer more territory?

Helping Ukraine defends themselves is the, and forgive me for the brutal way of putting it, most 'cost effective' way of dealing with this very serious threat.

I know that people say wayland is the future and nobody cares about X yada yada, but it is pretty frustrating when wayland is broken for a whole bunch of things.

It's like a trend, similar to flatpak, the devs don't care so it doesn't get done but simultaneously you have to 'embrace' it even though it degrades your experience.

As interesting a technology as bpf is, I really do worry that some aspects of it are just a way of working around the GPL and exfiltrating things from the kernel.

It is potentially (very!) useful to be able to hook into things, but when you get to the point of actually changing kernel behaviour will it not be tempting for companies to implement 'secret sauce' they don't have to contribute back?

Wrestled with this bad boy 24kg kettlebell in gym yest morn.

I have a long way to go on my (oh god) weight loss/health/fitness 'journey', but the gym routine is sacrosanct and doing me a world of good!

Being in that inbetween state where you're obviously super fat and anybody glancing at you would either not believe you or laugh at the fact you go to the gym 4 times a week is a WEIRD place to be man.

Luckily I don't base any of this on 'motivation' rather just having a set routine that I always do.

I bet you went through a similar phase at some point @cwayne ?

I remember last time I lost a lot of weight weirdly people massively upped the fat jokes, it's like you fighting it causes people to push back on you more it's all just odd stuff

This fosstodon thing reminds me that those who go on the most about how considerate they are about others (+ how everybody else is horrible) are so often the ones doing the most harm.

It's been a spot on tell for me for quite some time now... 'the lady doth protest too much methinks'.

The cure of course is humility, honesty and being willing to embarrass yourself by openly saying 'yeah ok I was wrong'.

Deeply powerful tools, very very rarely displayed, especially by those with even the smallest semblance of power...
