Blood Meridian by Cormac McCarthy. The main character has no name, no parents and his life is full of violence and death. It's all he knows, so much as he knows anything.
I've loked at my front page a few times, and man, it's pathetic. Literally just a bunch of useless askreddit and AITA threads. It's basically quora lol.
The largest issue for me is that I've never watched an ad and thought "I need that". It's just a huge waste of time that I find disrespectful and distasteful.
That being said I haven't watched and ad in years. A bit less then a decade now, actually.
When I first found out it was an interesting concept that I was pretty neutral on but the more I engage/lurk with the community the more I enjoy it....
I know you all who have been here longer than 3 days are probably sick of the whole "leaving reddit" post trend here, but I figured this would be a good thing to talk about because I didn't really see it mentioned too much. A lot of people have spoken on here about poor moderation, the whole API debacle, a sort of downward cycle...
I fart in your general direction, your mother was a hamster, and your father smelt of elderberries!
Really though, I was part of two private subs that were invite only. The smaller community and how users were "recruited" made a huge difference. I could post things there that I wouldn't on public forums, mostly because of the increased anonymity, but also because there wouldn't be any nastiness.
You remind of people playing Deep Rock Galactic for the first time. When you 'die' one of your teammates has to come and get you up and with a lot of new people they apologize profusely for getting downed as if they're scared that I'll yell at them or something. It's like they have PTSD from toxic experiences on other online games.
It really sucks to see that, but it's also really cool when they realize it's okay that they died and they can finally start just enjoying the game.
I'm currently playing Diablo IV (and having a blast with it) but finding one small gripe which I only think is going to get worse and probably stop me playing it completely in the long run....
I run a few groups, like @fediversenews, mostly on Friendica. It's okay, but Friendica resembles Facebook Groups more than Reddit. I also like the moderation options that Lemmy has....
I love it. I love how I don't usually have to deal with "right-wing" extremists. They're usually contained to lemmy.grab, but I suppose one or two might break containment every now and then.
Still, a hell of lot better then seeing their bullshit as the first comment on a new post. :|

why I ended up leaving Reddit today
