Boarding an absolutely packed flight for Bengaluru and in awe of how quiet and calm this is. Nearly every row has young kids. Pleasantly chill.

manoj,

@brianleroux I’ve also not had problems with loud kids of late in the flights. Perhaps, you get used to it once you have your own. 😃

Right now we’re feeling pretty overwhelmed. Fridge doesn’t work, dishwasher doesn’t work, I found a dead roach in a drawer, saw a friend, witnessed a fist fight, and more stuff and we only got here Tuesday.

We have our SEF appointment today, which should go fine, but I keep fighting the feeling that we’ve made a mistake. What if the animals never adjust? What if I can never learn this damned language well enough? What if we hate it here? What if there’s something we forgot to ship that I’ll be devastated to realize is missing. How do we even get our stuff once it’s here? Where will we put it?? Maybe we shouldn’t have shipped anything? What if they don’t renew our lease? What if we can’t get doctor’s appointments in time to get renewed prescriptions? What if my sister never comes to visit and I never see her again? Will the frustration of not having direct road access because of the bollards be too much hassle?

I’m sure this panic is pretty normal. Moving to another country where you don’t speak the language is big, and I KNOW I need to be more patient with myself, but man it’s tough. It comes in waves, and the jet lag and lack of sleep surely doesn’t help, but it’s exhausting.

We only arrived two days ago, I know I need to just give myself more time to adjust but I do wish these waves would stop. It’s all very exciting but also nerve-wracking.

It’s happening to both of us, so we’re mostly just trying to not have the panics at the same time so we can be strong for each other while the other one melts down.

manoj,

@snipe Welcome to the EU.
So cool that you’re doing this. Hang in there. 😃

Siri isn't working on my Apple Watch. The little swirly light comes on, but it stops animating, and it does not respond to my voice.

If I turn Siri off, and restart the watch, then Siri will work for a few requests, then stop working again.

I am now very aware of how often I use Siri on my watch. In fact, the watch is pretty useless to me without Siri.

manoj,

@oldmankris Could have been worse.. What if you had to use cash!? 😱 Like a dinosaur 🦖

Just realized that @MonaApp allows to hide statistics. There is a significant difference in interacting with content that really appeals to you without knowing how popular it already is. Even though (I thought) I did not care about the numbers before.

I need a vacation but when I told my wife it came out “I need to vacate.” 😬

manoj,

@shanselman Oh, no! I hope she wasn’t (too) happy! 😅

Been playing around with Bluesky a bit & it’s pretty interesting. They have an easier consumer experience (signup/discovery/UI works like Twitter) and it all feels very snappy. I like how they use domain names (or subdomains) instead of what look like funky email addresses. By far the biggest problem Jay & co face is that Jack Dorsey has effectively poisoned the well on everything from people assuming it’s a crypto platform (it’s not) to assuming (understandably) that be bad at trust & safety.

manoj,

@anildash Why do you think that Anil? The distributed infrastructure of the Internet runs on protocols and one might even say it’s successful because of them.

Protocol is the long term solution, no?

We've switched MFA at work, and I still have the old MFA token generation in my authenticator app.

Now he's a question - if I don't remove it, does it contribute to increasing entropy in the universe by continually generating numbers? Would removing it have any difference? Would those numbers be generated anyway by background noise, just without a UI.

Yes this is what I sometimes ponder...

manoj,

@tanepiper Ugh. Having to type in numbers every time is frustrating! 🤦‍♂️

Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that buying Twitter Blue makes you look like such a loser that Elon personally paid for multiple celebrities' blue checks in order to humiliate them

manoj,

@malwaretech @kushal What he is doing is borderline shady/unethical (which by itself is not in the least surprising for him).

By paying for the celebrities himself, it is looking like the celebrities are endorsing Twitter blue.
