At the beginning of April I found the perfect mother's Day gift for me. It was in Etsy and was made and shipped from Ukraine. They estimated it would take two weeks to get here, but this seemed optimistic to me. I sent the link with the clear instructions that I wanted it for mother's Day and that it was from Ukraine so it would take a bit to get here. It was more than a month before mother's Day so I figured out would be ok. Mother's Day rolls and around and there's no present ๐ they hadn't even ordered it ๐คฌ. So they ordered it then. I just got it! I can't believe it only took 1.5 weeks via mail from Ukraine. Mail service is really amazing. Ukrainians are also amazing. Household males less so. Happy Mother's Day to me.
@johnefrancis They seem to set them off regularly all summer. The police, which are normally parked nearby, don't seem to care. And bylaw certainly doesn't. City councilor just said it got worse during the pandemic because people were bored and thus it's temporary. It's not getting better, however, because no one ever gets in trouble. They are, of course, setting them off in the park, which is always illegal.
@stephanie You do see them out occasionally during the day, often someone is fiddling in their shed or something and disturbs them. Sometimes, especially with babies, they have to move nests or something. When you do see them, you wonder how such chonky animals manage to hide from us so well!
Our little 8-container yoghurt incubator works well for the Canadian bagged-milk situation. When I have one container left, I heat up a single bag's volume of milk (1.3 L) then let it cool. That volume plus the last container dumped in to inoculate the batch makes exactly 8 full containers again. A continuous loop.
@ottaross Yogourt is very Canadian because it's both English and French (while not being used in either England or France ๐). I think the "h" is generally used in Commonwealth countries, and like the "u", not in the US.
@ottaross That's the France French version. I'm sure they absolutely reject the Canadian French version ๐, as I'm sure French Canadians are fine with both just like English Canadians use multiple spellings ๐. A Canadian spelling to unite Canadians and confuse the rest of the world ๐
We're killing all the grass in the yard to prepare for all the plants we ordered. The birds are ecstatic about it! They're taking so much dead grass away and eating so much in the dirt!
@human3500@stephanie I haven't had grass in years. Many many lawns are just gravel ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ you can't have hardscaping on the city property (hence the issues with tiny libraries). There's height restrictions and apparently your can't have edible plants within a metre of the road (grass is edible so ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ). I most certainly don't have edible plants that people like to snack on while walking by. Nope.
Went out before 9 this morning to take the laundry off the line and it smelled like campfire out there. Why are people burning stuff? Have they forgotten last year so quickly? We all know it's going to be more of the same thing year.
@MichaelPorter Yeah, I don't think it's forest fires yet. Someone in the neighbourhood seems to use wood to heat their house a lot, so at like 8:30 in the morning I'd be inclined to blame them. It was around even in the late afternoon too though so I'm not sure.
I have attempted lavender scones today. Mine don't look anything like the recipe ones, so I'm not sure what's happened. But these look better, so hopefully they taste great. #vegan
Even the next day the scones are spectacular! Having one right now with lavender coffee ;) one other small difference is that I used soy milk instead of almond milk. I like soy milk in baked goods better because it has more fat and the protein is a bonus. The protein may help in its own way too, I think it's more similar to dairy milk than almond milk is.
Well, we're out in the night, on a bit of urban farm and watching the skies. There's a lot more cloud than expected, but seeing stars overhead, and a crescent moon.
No sign of #aurora from here, but there's lots of light pollution and residual post sunset glow.
YouTube has just given up and is now just throwing commercials to me in any language. English, French, Chinese, and this week Korean! I have my language preferenced right there, in the YouTube settings, but ๐คท๐ผโโ๏ธ
