thinking about how at my old retail job, there was a screen that showed ads by the checkout line, but at some point a windows error message popped up and it stayed there for months
@mjdxp It is always funny but most places reboots or whatever within an hour.
I do remember someone showing a city bus in north-western Europe (Belgium? Netherlands? North-West germany?`Don't remember) which just had the loading sequence for Linux on the time table TV and it was obviously stuck at some command near the end.
hot take: DDG is a total scam and if you really want to use a privacy respecting search engine, you won't find one with DDG. they've been caught sending microsoft user data, and even if they've stopped doing that, since it uses bing's search results i could see microsoft finding some way to de-anonymize search results. if you want a true privacy respecting search engine, don't use one by a for-profit company
@mjdxp the only thing I liked about ddg was the ability to do !g in my queries to switch to google automatically, but then I learned Firefox supports that you just have to set it up. I switched my firefox up to use (I believe it was @) and put a couple of "open search" things such as GitHub and it was really cool. I need to get my old firefox settings I have them in a private GitHub repo somewhere. As for actual searching? Searxng. https://github.com/searxng/searxng although public instances the more popular they are the less likely anyone could deanonymize and find patterns but the more likely that google won’t work because captchas and excessive use.
@mjdxp you know they used to run radio ads in my town right? I would hear over the radio "try duckduckgo" I don’t remember the exact wording but it was along the lines of "the search engine that respects your privacy". I’ve also seen their billboards around town (not any up anymore that I know of). So no I don’t think they’re privacy centric they care about having a big user base
thanks for 1,000 followers! ...again. i had around 1,000 on my previous account on 0w0.is, but when i moved here, i lost around a hundred of them, now i'm back to 1,000!
played some more simcity 2013. my city has become a dystopian megacity with pollution and sickness everywhere due to the lack of space to build with. most of my population is in one giant megatower, there's not enough space for industry, people are rioting, and the city is falling apart
wish there was a lightweight, modern city builder game out there that'd run well on weaker hardware
i want to play a city builder game but cities skylines doesn't run very well on my computer which isn't made for gaming, so i'm trying to play simcity 4, but it's a very old game that doesn't run super well on modern systems, can't even change focus from it without it completely breaking
