mounderfod,

It's especially strange when you consider that English is one of very few European languages to not have grammatical gender

mounderfod,

IMO this is a wholly negative development, the whole point of federation is for the instances to be connected and beehaw has effectively isolated themselves entirely :/

mounderfod,

"tankie" refers only to the latter I think

mounderfod,

Yeah, I'm a bit worried because there was recently talk in my home instance of defederating lemmy.ml because the owners are apparently far-left... thankfully I think there was consensus against it but you do start to worry that the whole thing might descend into tribalism with rivalling echo chambers...

mounderfod,

Yeah, i agree with you, defederating should be the last resort, rather than a tool to create echo chambers

mounderfod,

If you don't mind my asking, what did you use to delete all your activity? Thinking of doing the same

mounderfod,

Thanks!

mounderfod,

You might want to put this onto the GitHub as an issue as well

Every single Amazon Ring employee was able to access every single customer video, even when it wasn't necessary for their jobs. (www.malwarebytes.com)

Amazon's Ring cameras were allegedly used by employees and third-party contractors to spy on customers. The FTC has filed a complaint against Amazon, which may result in a $5.8 million settlement. Employees had unrestricted access to customer videos and could download, save, and share them. Some employees abused this access,...

mounderfod,

Hopefully this is something EU can pursue as well, since their fines are more likely to actually threaten Ring's operations

Following remote communities is hard.

It's easy to discover communities on my instance via the dedicated page in the hamburger menu. But let's say I want to follow a community on another instance, such as !lemmy . I might have found its name mentioned in a post or comment. When I click on the provided link, I'm thrown on that instances web page, from which I of...

mounderfod,

Would it be possible for there to be a cookie or something that stores the home instance of the user that other Lemmy instances can then read and redirect the user to? I'm not very knowledgeable with stuff like that but it sounds like it could work

mounderfod,

Yeah I believe alpro are the main producer for it in the UK too

mounderfod,

Yeah tbf it's only good in certain scenarios but when it is, it's awesome

mounderfod,

I suppose you can subscribe to both, or eventually one will become more popular than the other

mounderfod,
mounderfod,

Hi, figured I'd let you know that I'd also had an Indieheads community on a different, smaller instance but that I've deleted it to reduce fragmentation (there weren't any posts anyway), glad you've set one up on the main instance as I don't have an account there :)
