Hi there :)
I'm a former Human Factors/User Experience person who is mixing it up and studying Public Health in a remote timezone foolishly unsuited for my sleep. San Diego-ish, California.

I've never been on a tech team that was influenced by politics but they are influenced by money (as pushed by management/business goals) and have too little time to consider ethics.

Slow down and fix things. Nah, who'd pay for that...

It's a well know fact that car companies (especially American ones) lobbied their governments to create car infrastructure. So why don't bike companies do the same for bike infrastructure?

I’m pretty sure it’s safe to assume that many of you reading this are long time viewers of the Youtube channels Not Just Bikes, Climate Town and probably Adam Something. All three of these channels have mentioned in their videos that car companies lobbied governments and pressured urban planners to create infrastructure...

@SpiceDealer my guess is the bike companies don't have as much profit for lobbying, but I like the direction of this. I'd love to see a grassroots movement demanding infrastructure for active travel.

mrialena,
@mrialena@mastodon.social avatar

@rockSlayer why do you assume "active travel" is only bikes? what about walkable communities? what if I like to roller skate? why can't we collaborate in each community on how we want to get around and what the rules are?

mrialena,
@mrialena@mastodon.social avatar

@rockSlayer I see later in the thread that you've talked about thoughtful infrastructure, which I starred. Unfortunately, that wasn't in my notifications, which is what I replied to.

Why Are American Drivers So Deadly? After decades of declining fatality rates, dangerous driving has surged again. (www.nytimes.com)

The cause was easy enough to identify: Data parsed by Kuhls and her colleagues showed that drivers were speeding more, on highways and on surface streets, and plowing through intersections with an alarming frequency. Conversely, seatbelt use was down, resulting in thousands of injuries to unrestrained drivers and passengers....

@dmrzl @silence7 I think they're largely interchangeable, like "lethal crash" and "deadly crash". Perhaps the use of deadly here was for alliteration: deadly drivers.

I'm far from 15, but I've enjoyed what I've read of Happy City.

Well, it seems it was my turn to be fired.

From now on I will be looking for a #remote work in Europe (I live in Hamburg, Germany)

My recent XP is with Unity/C#. But I have done C, old school C++, and now I am learning #godot.

I have worked as dev, lead, engineer manager, game director and CTO.

I used to do some engine programming but my forte is gameplay.

At the moment, I am looking mainly for a programming position. I want to get my hands as dirty as possible again.

Boost is appreciated!

@glaskows

Hey, if mobile is on your radar, these guys are hiring remote - they're headquartered in San Diego.

They have a game out and something new in the works.
