Christ on a crutch Microsoft you bloody did not just add random ass widgets to the login screen did you? You did? WTF for? Who asked for this?

mvyrmnd,
@mvyrmnd@aus.social avatar

@decryption @dawnstar @dawnstar Yep. I immediately added regkeys to stop it it to my "Die MS Bullshit" GPO. It's a forever battle.

Ok computer-touches of the fediverse, I’ve had enough of the Windows fucks and will be installing Debian <soon>. Maybe 20 years has been enough for a viable Linux on the desktop, who knows…

So what window manager are the cool kids using these days? Is Enlightenment still a thing? I want to not have fuck with things

mvyrmnd,
@mvyrmnd@aus.social avatar

@jpm I went KDE in January after giving up on Windows. I'm very happy and comfortable.

I need some help. This isn't a call for donations (although you're more than welcome to if you want!). My major fundraising event for the Shitbox Rally this year has fallen through. I need to raise $5000 by October. Any fundraising gurus out there have any ideas they'd be willing to share on how to go about it?

Making the best of my RDO by preparing Beef Rendang for dinner. 8 hrs in the slow cooker should do it.

mvyrmnd,
@mvyrmnd@aus.social avatar

@decryption That's the plan. It should cover up some of the teenager smell for a few hours.

Oh dear, old UPS battery is VERY shagged (that’s the technical term for it)

mvyrmnd,
@mvyrmnd@aus.social avatar

@jpm hey which LiFePo4 packs are you putting in UPSes?

Amazingly, the only collateral damage was both headlight bulbs popping. Everything else seems to be perfectly fine!

If they want to implement "age assurance" on the internet in Australia, to get to adult sites you should have to answer a pop quiz about how preferential voting works. No kid will know, and it will educate a bunch of people who should.

It's a little known fact that the C in USB-C stands for Cloaca. One hole that does every job.

@decryption surely you could have done something dumb with it in the meantime

Pro tip: if you're replying to a job advert and they won't even answer simple questions like "which office is it based in?" and "how much will I be paid?", then they're probably right bastards to work for and it's not worth it.

I've finally gotten around to trying out Tailscale after @decryption dropped many hints about its awesomeness. He wasn't wrong!

Access to all your devices from all your devices is quite the game changer. Also means I may be able to dump a few paid services that give me remote access (Home Assistant's Nabu Casa and Octoprint Everywhere), though I may keep Nabu Casa just to support them.

Super easy to get set up and not nearly as complicated as I initially feared.

mvyrmnd,
@mvyrmnd@aus.social avatar

@shermozle @decryption OK FINE. I'LL TRY IT THEN. GAWD!!

mvyrmnd,
@mvyrmnd@aus.social avatar

@shermozle @decryption ok i did it and it's pretty cool

mvyrmnd,

@shermozle @decryption OK tailscale rocks

mvyrmnd,

@decryption @shermozle I'm very seriously considering getting the enterprise version for work

    @decryption from https://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/2071387

    "I'm posting this for the benefit of anyone else searching this forum for information on third party memory modules for the CM305. I have successfully installed a 512MB memory module in my Fuji Xerox CM305df for less than $25.

    I assumed that the FX CM305 is a rebadged Xerox Phaser 6500. The specs for the 6500 memory module listed here are "512MB unbuffered Speed: PC2-5300 Pins: 144 DDR-2 DRAM Organization: (256Mx8)x4 CL-tRDC-tRP: 5-5-5 Class: -6E RoHS compatible".

    There is a Transcend memory module part number TS128MPQ32V6U that matches the above specs."

    They all appear to use the same Xerox part number EL300820
