Todays project: fixing our cellular shoe organizer. A few of the 3dprinted connectors broke when we moved 5 years ago and yesterday the whole thing collapsed 🫠

Detail photos ode the collapsed region

Luckily we still had the 3d file for the connectors so converted that to lines for lasercutting and are replacing the plastic connectors with wood ones

Small section with the new connectors. I need to double these up

@beandad ehhhhh it’s close to right. Except when I try to take the shoes out from the bottom I will be crushed

Testing the ubiquiti nanostation loco 5ac to beam internet from the office to the house. Figured we test it out before drilling holes into building

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

So far our download speed is poor. Need to figure it out on a warmer day. Internet at the office is 450+ but at home only getting 60. I would like to get at least 100mbps

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@graham_freeman we intend to mount to exterior of buildings ultimately. We tried interior and exterior (just taped on) and speed was the same. Will try higher up on a warmer day. I don’t want to drill through building until we find good position

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@graham_freeman I have the nano station loco 5ac. I don’t see anything indicating wired limit https://store.ui.com/us/en/collections/uisp-wireless-airmax-5-ghz-client-compact/products/loco5ac

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@graham_freeman looks like it’s set to 20 MHz connections now. Would increasing the bandwidth help?

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@danielcornell I’ll update when we make progress. Might be a few days

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

Capacity and signal look good but through our Google wifi connected to the nanostation we’re only getting 50-60 mbps on a speed test

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@avi more expensive dishes just seemed like overkill for 200ft distance. Do I really need to upgrade to achieve 100 mbps download speed?

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@kwf thanks for the tips. I used the site survey tool to select a band that’s empty. I’ve plugged a desktop directly into the nano station on the home side. It was 70-80 mbps so a little faster than the Google wifi bu5 nothing dramatic

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@toba we tested outside as well no difference in speed test

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

Oh! After testing all the cables it turns out it’s our POE injectors that are making things slow. Looks like I ordered the wrong injectors “standard” vs gigabit

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

I’m excited to have an answer…now we have to wait several days for new POE injectors to come

When your design studio is called Nervous System, I guess it’s inevitable that you will end up making a jigsaw puzzle about neurons with a hidden neural cluster mini puzzle inside it

We’re considering erecting a prefab/modular house for a family member on the back of our property. It would be about 1000ft2. this feels daunting but it’s probably a good idea given the state of the real estate market

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@jenlowe it would be a house for Jesse's aging mother who is ready to move from her big family house to a one story place that's smallest and closer

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@jon she’s fine she’s just thinking about the next phase in her life. I love the look of those houses, very stylish. unfortunately, most of the options available in the US are considerably uglier.

I’m paying for Internet at my house and at my studio which are like less than 300 feet apart. What sort of wireless device should I be looking at to share Internet between the two buildings? A lot of things I’m seeing like the nanobeam are for larger distances.

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@tedmielczarek thanks! what's the difference between the nanobeams and the cheaper nanostation locos? https://store.ui.com/us/en/collections/uisp-wireless-airmax-5-ghz-client-compact/products/loco5ac?variant=loco5ac-us

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@graham_freeman looks like we are 200 feet from the house. the studio building peeks out about 15' past the barn. is the barn a problem?

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

to clarify: I plan to beam internet from the studio to the house. since reliable internet is more important at work than at home

nervous_jessica,
@nervous_jessica@mastodon.social avatar

@tedmielczarek thank you!
