Entire salaries are somehow propped up by ads that say things like “hang three pennies in a bag to learn the secret to good gut health” and “here’s why I keep a tactical onion on my belt”. https://saturation.social/@clive/112457235366176250

I found this substance at the grocery store marked “gelatine halal sheets (vegetarian)” with no other information. They are transparent yellow-tinted thin sheets that are hard to snap and shatter a little when you do. I’ve dissolved about 10–15 grams in about 200 grams of stock and they do seem to be thickening it a little when left to cool. Any idea what this could be other than the gelatine I suspect it is?

He really doesn’t get it, does he? He really doesn’t see why specific people got access and didn’t post things in their fuller context. What a big dummy.

If you select an album in the Music app on MacOS and then you change the album artwork without selecting a song, it only changes the artwork for the first song because the people who are assigned to the Music app today do not like music or understand how people manage music libraries.

Bring out the wahhhhmbulance: NPR editor publishes essay full of factual errors at another site, violating his employment agreement, and decides to resign. https://www.wsj.com/business/media/npr-editor-suspension-uri-berliner-d5dda39c?st=bmhh13gv89jz5gc&reflink=article_copyURL_share

Fortunately, he can claim “intolerance.” I’m intolerant…of specious arguments poorly articulated and lacking rigorous factual underpinnings.

@glennf This trajectory practically wrote itself from the moment he decided to complain in Bari Weiss’ hack publication. Look out for his inevitable new Substack, TBC, with the same topics and same guest essayists as everybody else.

A cool thing about transferring photos off my real camera while travelling is that they get uploaded to iCloud, downloaded by my iMac at home, and then backed up to Backblaze. I like that.

nickheer,

A cool thing would have been if this worked. Alas, my iMac — plugged into the wall and connected to my Photos library — decided to download only about twenty of the hundreds of photos I imported on the road. Power Nap was on because, well, it did download that handful. And I know they’re in iCloud because they are visible on my phone! Neat stuff!

You’re allowed to like what you like and compromise where you want to, but it is idiotic for the New York Times to publish this drivel. This isn’t even a case against good coffee; it’s a case for convenience. https://www.nytimes.com/2024/04/02/magazine/instant-coffee-benefits.html

@billbennett Those tasting notes are very helpful for me, to be honest. Saying “light roast” is relative, but saying that it tastes mostly of sweet and deep flavours with a little citrus lets me know this is not the kind of flavour profile I would want, if I had other options.

I don’t know when this happened but MacOS Sonoma has a nicer Typography panel showing what each setting looks like. Still a crime you have to go two panels deep in Pages just to change to the correct numbers style, though.
