oleorun,

And a parody of Harvey Dent first becoming two-face in Batman.

oleorun,

You’re both absolutely right, my bad.

oleorun,

Good call, you are right. I was wrong. It’s been a while since I saw Keaton and Nicholson.

oleorun,

Don’t treat the new Speaker of the House that way!

(srsly tho, I wouldn’t be surprised if he’s already had business cards printed)

Has HP printers always been this bad? (sh.itjust.works)

So my mother recently bought an ET-2800, By HP we had an HP printer before and we got a new one because the old one would not work with my sister’s Windows 11 Laptop. So I had to set it up for my mother, the manual said you can use it without the app. But there was no way to physically do that. Anyway, I downloaded the app on...

oleorun,

Carly Fiorina destroyed HP. She tanked product quality by using cheap plastic parts instead of metal and she can’t manage people. She’s a terrible leader and on a personal level she’s just not right in the head, as she embraces trumpism, is racist, elitist, etc.

oleorun,

I beg to differ.

The old LaserJet 4s, 5s, the IIs and IIIs, the 8000 series, all those were great, well built printers with metal frames and heavy duty parts. They were made to last.

We still have a LaserJet 5M that prints reports hooked up to an airgapped Linux server. The printer never breaks down or needs anything more than toner. Yes, it’s slow. Amusingly slow. The page count is over 250k. The fuser is starting to ghost but it’s easily replaced. We just don’t care enough to do it right now. The printer doesn’t care.

Try this with any printer built after the Fiorina era and you’d be hard pressed to.

I’m all ears if you have a specific model in mind that was shit before Carly. Because, before her, HP was an industry leader. Now it’s cheap plastic junk, and it’s squarely on her failure as CEO that led to the company’s demise.

oleorun,

Mark Hurd, another former ceo, sexually harassed anything moved.

HP’s ceo hires have been…interesting. They’ve all been pretty bad.

oleorun,

Big city mandatory valet comes to my mind.

oleorun,

Sorry, but your questions are difficult to understand. Could you please clarify what you are researching? The fediverse isn’t some metaphysical thing.

What is your curiosity?

oleorun,

I was zoom-scrolling Lemmy on my phone, saw this post, almost passed it. Had to stop though.

I’m older, never been into Halloween. I have fun passing out candy, which suits my family fine. I don’t like makeup and costumes feelweird to me.

Thanks to therapy I came to realize that I had a lot of trauma pertaining to clothing and my appearance that I never quite recognized nor addressed. You see, I was bullied and physically assaulted relentlessly in school because my clothes were never the right brand, color, or style. My parents had five other kids besides me so there wasn’t a ton of money to buy the latest trendy shit from whatever store even sells that stuff. To this day I buy everything from one store that I’m comfortable with, where clothes fit and look good on me. For that reason I’m still conservative when it comes to clothes because for so long I attributed dressing differently as being physically punished.

However this year I think I am going to be adventurous and dress up as my celeb look-alike. I have one in mind and for once I am go to just enjoy myself and let loose a bit.

oleorun,

Vos is the very embodiment of everything that is wrong with the hyper-polarized political system we enjoy today. He and his cronies need to go. Fair maps cannot come soon enough.

Fedi Admins of Lemmy, How do you keep your servers up to date without increasing downtime

I am honestly kinda curious how exactly you manage your servers and keep them up to date, I feel like there is a linux patch every week or so, which would usually require a reboot. Do you all deploy live patching, how you become aware of critical stuff in your otherwise busy lives, RSS?

oleorun,

My lemmy.fan instance died. Something broke with federation and I’ve never been able to get it running again, even with a new database and a new subdomain. I gave up for now, at least until better error checking and recovery is implemented.

Can I safely remount a tv wall mount?

Got a new tv that works with my existing mount but it’s just not working like we need for this bigger tv. Could I put a new mount using the same holes. My concern is the bolts won’t have the same resistance to being pulled out. Google foo was no help on this and the Reddit link of course has been deleted. Thanks in advance!

oleorun,

I would also take the features and integrity of the old mount into consideration. If it doesn’t articulate, for instance, or if it doesn’t have tilt adjust, then it might be worth upgrading the mount itself while it’s off the wall.

I would also check for smooth operation, cracks, bulges or dents, or severe corrosion (unlikely near a TV but you never know). If the mount shows any of these, recycle it and get a new one.

As the article mentions, keeping the TV on the wall successfully for the long haul is the ultimate goal here.

oleorun,

The System applet side by side with the legacy Control Panel sucks so bad. Is that setting here, there, or everywhere? Want to combine task bar icons? Fuck you, we haven’t rewritten that part yet.

oleorun,

ARRL lost me after they shut down their entire website for days to upgrade it. Who thought that would be a good idea? You run old and new sites concurrently, then bring the new one online once it’s ready. You don’t shut off the old server for several days.

That lack of common sense is a blocker for me.
