Remember the Satanic Panic? That’s when people were put on trial for crimes that not only didn’t happen but which were impossible to happen.

Some were exonerated, others were sentenced to prison. Some served time, some died in prison, some are there still.

Remember, at the time, how effective logic and evidence were as counter-arguments?

Remember, after it ended, how many of the people behind the Satanic Panic were held accountable?

I sure remember.

Don’t take facts to a faith fight.

The journey of a thousand miles begins with taking one easy, guaranteed step of a thousand miles and arriving with no effort or problems or unexpected challenges. Or perhaps the journey of a thousand miles begins with taking one step and then another and then more, with errors and advances all along the way. I'm not sure, what do you think?

After humanity stopped listening to the deities of rock and tree and lake, they didn’t go away.

We are all caught up in the electronic deities now, but the deities in between haven’t had their day.

The deities of steam, the pneumatic deities, they are speaking too.

Per the latest Roderick on the Line, some collaborative memories.

Dog School was a very bad ska band with a rotating lineup that included me, @grantimatter, Christian/X-ian/Lando, and Aaron from Big Nerd Ranch.

Last photo is from the Church of the SubGenius event Lando had organized at New College. At which event Rev. Ivan Stang married everyone in attendance to one other for 24 hours.

(Thanks, @megancytron)

Most citizens of Dobbstown aren't "techies" - as long as things work, and they don't have to, they get slack.

But for those who are curious, here's a glimpse into our state of the art server room...

Graphic used in announcing a SubGenius social from "The Leicester Evening Mail" for 13 June 1934.

Like any social gathering except there's some measure of "Bob" talk and likely a Dobbshead in the vicinity.

You and friends at somebody's home, or monthly at a bar or restaurant, or five times a day with thousands of co-religionists in the middle of the street... slack takes many forms.

You have permission. You have what you need for YOUR local SubGenius social.

Charles Ives - They Are There! (1942)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=10pqluMwgXQ

"When we’re through this cursed war, all started by a sneaking gouger, making slaves of men (GOD DAMN HIM!) — then let all the people rise and stand together in brave, kind humanity. Most wars are made by small, stupid, selfish, bossing groups, while the people have no say. But there’ll come a day — hip hip hooray — when they’ll SMASH ALL DICTATORS TO THE WALL."

Me? I'm ME to say that.

"Who are you to judge?"

Well... I'm ME to judge.

"What if everybody thought that way?"

Friend, I can promise you that neither all people, nor most people, nor many people, think like I think. Promise. I don't even think like myself, given enough time.

BULLDADA is the unexplainable label for that mysterious quality that impregnates ordinary things with meaning for the SubGenius. We recognize that the most awe-inspiring artifacts are not the revered artsy-fartsy pieces in our swankest art museums — but are instead to be found in low-budget exploitation movies, lurid comic books, all-nite TV, certain bizarre billboards and pulp magazine ads, and other fossils of raw humanity in all its shit-kickingly flawed glory.

Even the people with enough savvy to catch some satirical aspects of SubGenius are taken in by other claims we make, such as that we are incredibly rich and well-connected. Many talk-show callers have let us know that they aren't fooled -- they know we're making fabulous money off this scam. [...] People are always ready to believe the worst.

The Sweet Peel of "Bob" 's Bells

by Hellpope Huey (circa 2000)

It is said that churches feature bells because demons hate them. This is due to all matter (aside from things political, which exist outside the realm of Ordered Reason) being generally of either the Active or the Inert clans, certain momentary oddities of physics proper notwithstanding.
