Statamic 5 is here! Major performance and DX improvements as well as official support for Laravel 11 and Laravel Reverb 🚀

Get all the details in our announcement blog post: https://statamic.com/blog/statamic-5-is-here

@statamic @doefom Sadly, still no built-in 2FA, which today is more or less considered mandatory on a site with login capability.

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@emd @statamic @doefom Away of the add-on, thanks, but it should really be in core. Seems odd to have to buy the CMS and then pay extra for modern security. Definitely not opposed to paying for add-ons, it’s a smart thing to have.

@emd @statamic @doefom Agree, doing right is better than quickly. Good to hear they are considering it. Thanks!

Been having problems with 2 local projects on my Mac closing the connection when using PHP-FPM. Finally after almost 1 year (since Sonoma apparently) I found the solution:

https://stackoverflow.com/questions/77554102/php-pg-connect-does-not-return-in-php-fpm-after-macos-sonoma-upgrade

The 2 projects were the only ones using PostgreSQL.
I was able to work on them with the PHP Server, so I only tried debugging the issue once in a while.

@sebobo Thank you for sharing. I’ve been shying away from PostgreSQL after hearing a few stories of frustration on macOS. Perhaps time to try again.

Securing Laravel has now officially moved to Ghost from Substack! 🎉

I'll be sending out the first Security Tip written on Ghost later today, but first, it's time for a migration discount!

For the next 2 weeks, you can get 25% off a new Securing Laravel subscription! 🎂

@valorin Congrats on completing the move!

Kids, husband & I are going for our belt testing this afternoon!

Youngest is aiming for orange belt & the other two are aiming for their blue. Husband & I are currently unranked although we have been in class for two years so... it will be nice to see how our sensei ranks us.

But damn if I'm not hella nervous!! 😬

@syntaxseed My son started at six and I joined to help with the kids class. Ended up joining teen adult class while still helping kids class. Son stopped a year later. 10 years later made it to my brown belt. Best move my son made ! Enjoy the journey and the people you meet along the way.

Having the air ambulance land in your backyard while having lunch certainly was an experience the kids won’t forget too quickly 😲😁

@michael Perhaps “they” were coming for you originally? You can never be too careful.

With all the talk about how bad Google Search has been getting lately (and especially given the posts I’ve seen about how the ads team was putting pressure on the search team to somehow entice users to increase their search queries), I wonder how effective would be a protest against Google in the form of:

User-agent: Googlebot
Disallow: /

This is not a recommendation. It’s just a thought, for now.

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@ramsey I’ve been tempted many many times to do this. But alas, I have not... yet.

Wow. Had to deal with Claudebot being overly vicious and causing issues with our servers. I contacted support, got an auto reply then never heard back. Today I find out they have added me to their mailing list and are now spamming me with their offers.

AI AI AI AI… AI everywhere, but has anyone thought to use an AI to help reduce spam or scammers? Seems it would be pretty good at that.

We went for the last time this month to our Maxi, on May 1. Here on in we will avoid ALL Loblaws and Loblaws owned stores. Perhaps even after May if we find reasonable alternatives.

Local Maxi was a Provigo last year, they spent $1-$2M switching over. Variety is a fraction of what it was. We are friends with a friend of a Loblaws Rep, and ask him about this. He said “there is only so much room, on the shelves, you need to adapt.” Store is same size as before thought right. BS

For Canadians looking to take a stand against massive corporate greed. Hurt them where they hurt most: the bottom line. This boycott is for the month of May. It may inconvenience you, but your participation will yield results.

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@coffeegeek @dandb Remember, Loblaws owns a whole lot more than a grocery store:

https://brandsownedby.com/what-companies-are-owned-by-loblaws/

24 major stores to avoid this month.

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@dandb @coffeegeek Growing up, i can still picture 2 independent fruit and veggies stands/stores (year round) that my mom would shop at weekly. Right now, apart from the local farmers market (seasonal), I can’t think of a single one.

Starting find more and more reposts from people I follow to be nothing more than highly negative Twitter-Facebook-esque bitch sessions. Time to review who I follow. There’s a reason I left those places. Constructive criticism is good, but ganging up on an idea or entity and simply putting it down or making fun of it at others expense is not okay. What is wrong with people?

It's finally happening: Securing Laravel is moving off Substack onto Ghost this week! 🎉

Just asked Substack to disconnect my Stripe account, and once that's done I can connect Ghost and get them to import subscribers.

Still some content to fix up, but billing is the big one!

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@valorin Happy to test when ready. Just tried with attached. But perhaps this was because I had already left substack… for reasons… :)

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@valorin Can you scrape the tags from Substack and update the import file, or is that not how the import works?

I wrote a short post about my experience Anthropic and their Claudebot AI here in Mastodon a week or two ago. I had reached out to their support email address and received an instant auto notice saying that they got my email and a human would reply soon. Well, it’s been a week or two and no reply. My advice to everyone is to block Claudebot. Seems pretty AI scammy, complete with empty promises.

One of my earlier PRs was to the docs, to add a short description for a method that was overlooked in Laravel v3 or v4. I spent ages trying to make sure it was perfect. Then waited anxiously for it to be approved or commented on. Instead, Taylor deleted it and then had some one else do the issue. I’ve not bothered trying to help Laravel since. 😒 Love Laravel, but that put me off in a big way. I now spend my time doing PRs for those that appreciate them instead.

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@dandb To be fair, I’ve heard they have change their ways. But for someone like me who suffers immense imposter syndrome, I can’t bring myself to helping even if the issue is resolved. :(

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@michael Most orgs that I deal with reach out to say “Hey, are you able to fix the issue, or should we close the PR”

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@michael Now I am curious, is there an accepted OSS best-practices for handling PRs from a human perspective? GitHub doesn’t really touch on the human side of things: https://docs.github.com/en/pull-requests/collaborating-with-pull-requests/getting-started/best-practices-for-pull-requests

outofcontrol,
@outofcontrol@phpc.social avatar

@michael It’s tough. I struggle with my own tiny projects when I get the rare PR. 🤪
