was stoked to get a hard copy of the 2023 DORA report at devopsdays seattle and to discover that "Documentation is Foundational" has a whole section ❤️

often I have been the sole documentarian on a team, and while I know in my bones the value of good docs...its even better to complement it with scientific backing

Here's what I'll be presenting:

The Zen of Python states "There should be one-- and preferably only one --obvious way to do it." OpenTelemetry is the obvious choice for traces but bad news for Pythonistas when it comes to metrics because both Prometheus and OpenTelemetry offer compelling choices. Let's look at all of the ways you can tie metrics and traces together with exemplars whether you're working with OTel metrics, Prom metrics, Prom-turned-OTel metrics, or OTel-turned-Prom metrics!

most of the time horrible UX updates are foisted upon users....this time the users won

(tbh I'm surprised it took them a week to roll it back and even more surprised they changed the ENTIRE idea of their app for 1 specific use case)

Swipewipe app reviews sorted by Most Recent PeytB22 - Update ruined it. I hate the update, the app was perfect the way it was. Why would | pay to scroll through my camera roll and delete pictures when | can do that without the app? Bring back the swipes why developers??? I3ip - why developers??? why? first of all, to anyone readina this review...

my imperfect carpentry:trace sampling analogy

If you were to condense it down into 1 nugget of information: Head based sampling is like taking a chainsaw to lop off a branch (GIF of arborist in a tree showing how its done) Tail based sampling is when you take that branch into the woodshop and finely carve away the things you don't care about. (GIF of chisel delicately taking off the top layer of a wood plank)

Mine was back at New Relic when I was in PeopleOps and our engineering employee handbook was hosted on

I submitted one to update policy language and the devs were so supportive lots of fun emojis and comments on the PR 🎉
