Our tiny little 1-year-old ewe, Spinner, gave us the finest, crimpiest baby #fleece we've ever seen out of our flock. So fine, it's like thread. 😲 #Wool #SheepOfMastodon #Shearing Someone will have a good time #HandSpinning this fleece! 😌 @fiberarts #fiberarts

🧶 It's done! Yarn re-skeined on swift from ball I wound months ago, washed in Eucalan, dried thoroughly (it fluffed up, so nice!), re-wound just now into a ball.

Guess I still have to swatch? Do I? Hmmm...

Same yarn, re-skeined, ball started with figure 8 blob
Skein washed, so nice and fluffy and soft! The white yarn (used to tie) opened up quite a bit too.

I’m looking for fediverse accounts to follow for inspiration in my new leisure interest: #knitting #socks. I’ve made two pairs so far and am looking for help and style variations, as well as tips to improve my technique.

Comment with links if you know of any, thanks!

@ellane Here are a whole bunch of hashtags to check out. Not all relevant to socks but all are fiber arts related. Welcome to this wild and woolly world!

@spinning @fibrearts I’ve also chain plied some other fibre. Forgive my very detailed description 😂

I filled up a bobbin for the first time! This one is some BFL I am pretty sure I bought when I still lived in TX. (So, old) woo!

scarfwitch,
@scarfwitch@queer.garden avatar

Yay pretty. And it goes so well with the multicolored yarn I spun previously.

You can really tell my wheel chain plying needs hella work, though.

A small collection of my handspun yarn, wool or wool blended with silk or alpaca. The gold was dyed with onion skins, and the rust was dyed with sandalwood. The rest are synthetic dyes.

Ugh wow the lighting in my kitchen is no good, but I wanted to share before continuing -

2 whole skeins (200g) done on the sweater! This is the back part of the cardigan, worked up to the underarm.

Hopefully the raglan shaping takes less than 100g, or I might be in trouble! I only have 700g of fiber for the whole project 😱

@spinning Last night’s 100g finished and plied. This is “Singer” from Hilltop Cloud. I can’t remember the blend but there was something a bit toothy in it.

Finished the Welsh into a 3-ply . It's too coarse to wear next to the skin, but full of character. @fiberarts @handspinning

Hey @handspinning crew:

Does Shetland usually draft like pulling apart Velcro, or have I felted my fleece?

I cemented my image as the weird one.

Some reorg at work and a come-together for the new team - I'm the third-oldest now, median is probably about 30 (I'll be 55 soon), about 2/3 male (IT).

One of the questions was if anyone has an "unusual" hobby - owning and using wheels and looms did count.

Question about a favorite book answered with "Big Book of didn't help either.

Fun new spinning project: I separated a bag of neon-splotched fiber by color as best I could, broke those colors down into smaller strips, and I'm just pulling them out of the bag at semi-random. My goal is to chain-ply and line the colors up as much as possible. I think it's looking good so far!

Basket o' handspun. This is from a Tunis sheep named Lovely. It's currently single ply. I think I'm going to triple-ply it for cushy-soft knitting purposes.

Holy f*@k - I did a Thing!
I inherited a part ball of variegated yarn - which I dislike using because I feel it's disorganized, chaotic and messy looking. But I've seen this thing done online and decided to spend a day screwing around and tried it. It bloody worked. (Eventually) I'm amazed. A combination of programming and sorcery.

Look at how nice this yarn turned out! I had this fiber for years because I wasn't confident enough in my color handling skills, but I finally reached a point where I was more confident and I am proud of the end result #handspinning

For Giftmas, I treated myself to some Satin Angora fiber and some shiny new bobbins for my e-spinner.

The fiber's sheen is more subtle than I was expecting, but it was soooo soft and silky smooth to spin 😍
