I realized today that my first PR to #opa (and essentially OSS) was almost a year ago! (https://github.com/open-policy-agent/opa/pull/4866)

This really boosted my confidence when it came to working on OSS and I definitely would not be doing what I am today if I hadn't had such an awesome experience helping out on the #opa project

I also made some really great friends!

I like to go to tech conferences and stuff so I take things like, a laptop, charger, rechargeable batteries, etc...

Mine is just about kaput and I've never really looked into getting a "decent" one!

Something someone said to me at work bothered me today and I was hoping to get another view on this as maybe mine is not good.

"You're in your 30s now, its time to just stop coding and teach the younger guys and mentor people and take more of a high-level architectural view of things"

It really bothered me because I like to just code, I don't mind helping with some design decisions of course, but I don't want to just pack in coding and mentor all day... WDYT?

What's the general etiquette if you find something open source (Apache 2.0) that doesn't really work has had no commits for a while and you "fix it" but also change how it works somewhat. Do you go back and propose your changes (even if it's quite a lot)? Do you put it out there separately? Don't want to step on any toes 🤔
