If you enjoy reading accessibility battles between blind users and absolutely clueless software developers, oh boy do I have a thread for you.

This guy is trying to add accessibility to an open source slicing tool for 3d printers, he's even willing to do a lot of the work himself if he gets assurance that his PRs are going to be accepted, but the developers are just not seeing it.

I think my favorite quote in the thread is the following, from one of the lead devs:

"it may be better to have these features NOT accessible to the screnreader[sic] at all (which means they are effectively removed from the UI), because there is no point in presenting a feature that a person cannot use"

Along with a suggestion to implement a half-assed, blindness-specific GUI with half the features later down the thread.

@miki not surprised at all; had a similar experience when I tried to make something more accessible in an open source project; it got merged, but later reverted because - because it now required an extra TAB from all users.
On a similar note: it's quite astonishing if you get user feedback from someone who is not blind, but cannot see properly. Uses a screen reader, mouse, keyboard, but is baffled when features are hidden from screen readers or keyboards. Rightly so, in my opinion 😕

Das ist jetzt unpopulär in einer gewissen Blase aber das "Wir schaffen das" ist leider überholt und nicht mehr richtig. Und nein, wir packen auch nicht einfach noch mehr Zuzug.

Früher habe ich das noch geglaubt aber da brauchte ich keine neue Wohnung, keinen Kita-Platz, keinen Kinderarzt und mehr. Wer das braucht, der sieht, dass der Zuzug uns überfordert und ganz konkret Probleme bereitet, in alle Schichten hinein.

Und ja, wir brauchen Zuzug, auf Dauer, in den Arbeitsmarkt, aber anders.

@alexanderschnitzler sorry, das halte ich für traurigen Unfug.

Das Problem ist vielmehr der Unwillen, das politisch nicht opportune zu tun, und Geld in die Hand zu nehmen, damit das klappen kann. Stattdessen wird suggeriert, dass das Geld nicht da wäre.

Btw sind wir gefühlt Weltmeister darin unseren (qualifizierten) Arbeitsmarkt abzuschotten.

Wer schickt denn die größte Gruppe, die Ukrainer, zurück in den Krieg? Oder die Syrer?

"oben": bei der Anerkennung von Abschlüssen, oder bei legaler Arbeit (bzgl Arbeitserlaubnis ) etc: es ist sehr viel schwerer

FDP-Minister wollen Sozialleistungen für Asylbewerber kürzen

Die FDP-Minister Buschmann und Lindner fordern in einem Gastbeitrag für eine Zeitung, Leistungen für Asylbewerber künftig einfacher kürzen zu können. Unter bestimmten Voraussetzung wollen sie diese sogar fast komplett streichen.

about the FilesControlContainer in that represents the node type "file" in the backend form engine but for unknown reasons that is almost completely undocumented.
TCA fieldInformation is a nice concept in theory but there are some really rough edges: e.g. you cannot really add fieldInformation to a file field as this uses the FilesControlContainer (which doesn't use the fields TCA config)

(I hope I understood this correctly)

    @radmen Sometimes, like in the last lts release of some questionable decisions are made that lead to there being "final" sprinkled in many places were it most definitely doesn't belong in an open source project with a history of being maintainable and extendable. The same can be said for "private" btw. PHP is not java, and if you are writing PHP as if it's java: you're not taking advantage of its possibilities. (Disclaimer: I'm not a big fan of magic methods or eval code either)

    @radmen I'm not against using "final" in general. There's been a lengthy and unhealthy discussion in https://review.typo3.org/c/Packages/TYPO3.CMS/+/80566

    I'd regard adding "final" to classes that have been around for a long time as worse than adding "final" to new API; a simple composer patch is probably still far better than using unfinalize 😎

    Letzte Woche bin ich dann auch produktiv in ein Migrationsprojekt von v4.5 zu 12.4 eingestiegen. Entweder bin ich in einem halben Jahr sehr erleichtert oder sehr zerstört.

    @supergarv mein derzeitiges Migrationsprojekt: von 8 auf 11 mit so coolen Ideen wie "serialisiere den Form finisher, um in später an der gleichen Stelle weiter laufen zu lassen" (als DoubleOptIn) oder einen Custom-Annotation basiertem Compilerpass um TCA und SQL Dateien nicht schreiben zu müssen. Natürlich nicht an die "richtigen" Stellen d.h. rector kann damit nichts anfangen.

    Wir löschen Unmengen an Code, aber beim kaputten Code stellen wir oft fest, dass der auch auf dem live nicht ging

    @supergarv ja der Driss ist, dass rector mit dem generierten Kram wenig / gar nichts anfangen kann.

    Ach ja, fluidcontent war natürlich auch drin d.h. jede Menge merkwürdigen Anpassungen, damit das auch nur mit Flux läuft. Und fast 50 Xclasses; für eine eigentlich simple Seite.
