Obviously my big stressor right now is not knowing whether to go back to my PhD and, if not, what to do with my life. We could manage with me not having an income for a couple of months, but not much longer, I have to do something. I’m trying not to fret about this, I have opened myself to opportunities, I’m sure it will all work itself out in time

I’m reading a book called Unstressable. Looks like there’s going to be a fair bit of CBT-ish stuff in there about how we choose to respond to stress, but right now it’s got me thinking about the amount of stress I allow into my life. Without a doubt, Mastodon is a safer space than Twitter, and I am exposed to much less conflict and antagonism here… but I still think I could curate my Masto feed better, maybe mute some hashtags… there a fine balance between being informed about world events and becoming overwhelmed by them

24% of people are aware of having met a murderer despite not working in the criminal justice system. I guess I was just curious as to how common it is for people to know that they are talking to someone who has killed someone else because ime you would mostly never guess. One of the happiest people I have met in recent years killed his wife

Conversation with a friend yesterday

Him: I’ve never been to Indonesia
Me: I thought you’d been to Bali?
Him: Bali, yes, but not Indonesia
Me (confused): Bali is in Indonesia
Him: No it isn’t
Me (starting to doubt my own perceived reality): It definitely is

I had to pull out my phone, type “Where is Bali” and show him the result “Bali (/ˈbɑːli/; Balinese: ᬩᬮᬶ) is a province of Indonesia” for him to believe me.

Morning. I am sleeping so very badly at the moment. I probably got about six hours in total, but so broken, with long wakeful periods. Feeling jaded, where is the emoji for that?

I wasn’t online much yesterday, so I didn’t introduce a new addition to the household, who arrived in the post yesterday, courtesy of @sheepnik! I’ll post pics later.

TIL it's considered passé to use the word 'banger' with regards to a song. Richard Osman has apparently banned it and as we all know he is in charge of the Engerlish language. However I use banger quite a lot. So now have to come up with a pithy word that hyperbolically highlights my enthusiasm for a piece of music. Can we bring back Nathan Barley? That song is well Mexico.
