i use linux every day. and when i want to configure something? i don't know where to look, don't know which one of the many configuration utilities to use, have to go on a big forum thread research session to find out what the best practice is for my situation, don't know which config file to alter, don't know if the file will be overridden in the near or far future, don't know why the changes i'm making aren't working, etc. everything is the Principle of Most Surprise, and it sucks
Today, I’ve been using ChatGPT a lot to create SQLite queries. I provide it with the schema for all my tables in SQL and ask it to create queries based on specific needs that require reasoning about relationships across 5-6 tables. It works surprisingly well! ChatGPT takes advantage of features in SQLite that I had no idea existed to ensure that the result rows match my needs in great detail.
Cycling in Berlin, I am saddened sometimes when I cycle not on the bumpy, broken “bicycle paths”, but on the buttery smooth car road where I can get much higher speeds much more comfortably. All I need to do is risk my life. 😟
@doc In those situations where the bike path is unrideable, I take the middle of the lane. Sure, you can mow me down, but I’m not going to let you tell yourself it was an “accident”.
@doc No, not “far from the edge”, that’s what I mean, right in the middle. Make it absolutely impossible that they think they could get around you without killing you. And if they tailgate you, slow down.
@doc (If the road narrows such that it’s not safe to pass—but that’s my call, not the drivers’. I refuse to sacrifice my safety for a driver’s convenience.)
Et voila! Vienna bread with a dutch crunch topping, hot out of the oven, with a pic of the book responsible. i’m flabbergasted by the oven spring on these! they inflated like balloons! #BreadPosting
Do you name your computers and if so, what theme do you use? I’ve been naming mine after #FinalFantasy summons for around 15 years 🤓 #networkadmin#maker
I've got about another 10 months left at my current job and after that... I don't know what I'll do. I've already moved down to 4 days a week in an effort to glide down to FIRE. Do I really want to go back up to 5 days? Could I find somewhere that would be […]
@Edent I’ve always disguised it as travel—your backpacking around India option. Literally nobody has ever needled me about a “gap on my résumé” and if the idea of me taking a year off makes their brain explode I don’t want to work there anyway.
A hearty congratulations and welcome to everyone else boarding the flight I’m on shortly, since very evidently none of them have ever seen an airport or boarded a plane before, and indeed a few have clearly not been proximate to other humans at any prior point in their lives.
