I'm just trying to teach myself to prove some math things (writing them down in LaTeX because my handwriting is not great) but the computer is horny 😂 https://hachyderm.io/@recursive/112567880580781567
I'm thinking back to the time, earlier in my career, I was employed to do devops stuff related to web crawling, fixed one of the toilets in our small office (converted old house) rather than wait for the useless property management company.
Everyone seemed amazed, and I just had applied a little knowledge and 30 seconds of effort to a situation outside of the job description
The most striking experience of being queer was realizing that sometimes your mind can't tell the difference between wanting to be like a person and wanting to date them
The thing where I've been realizing this is that I had a certain idea of a woman I wanted to date about 20 years ago... and actually that's the person I've become.
A lesson I take from this is that it's wonderful to seek other people for connection, open-ended experiences, new ideas, but you need to consider that if something more concrete feels missing in your life, you maybe just need to do/become that thing.
I was that kid who was always happy to use extremely precise technical language, so of course now I am excited to have to pause and think for 20 seconds about whether "homomorphism" or "isomorphism" is the correct word to use in an everyday conversation.
@recursive yep happened to me on a video call with a doc this week. If it were me I wouldn't allow telehealth to be provided over devices that do this...
Learning about the lemma which was not discovered by Burnside and contemplating whether to try applying my 2 years of high school German learned almost three decades ago to trying to read Frobenius for fun
