Ok, halftime & our trail by 3, 14-17
Need to wake up our anemic defense, need to get the ball more & obviously score more!
Plenty of game left. How we feeling ?

rpallred,

I glued together OpenAI’s GPT and Google Scholar as an experiment to see if I could get better seed papers for a research question: https://librescholar.vercel.app Curious to learn if it does better than just Google Scholar in real world scenarios. I suspect it needs more context to be really useful. Full source code here: https://github.com/penberg/librescholar

rpallred,

Nice!

I made my own HDTV antenna from parts on hand and a balun that cost me $5.99 from Amazon.
Reception is fanTAStic.

rpallred,

How’s the reception? I need to do this…

rpallred,

@Dr_Elizabeth97 love them both.

@Dr_Elizabeth97 reading those books made up a not insignificant portion of my childhood!

rpallred,

@mjibrower I remember doing something similar—for better or worse it no longer exists on the web—even on archive.org.

Found something truly horrifying on this October day.

rpallred,

I wonder if I still have my Cue Cat sitting in a box somewhere… I was very unimpressed with it for scanning the catalogs—but ended up buying Readerware to repurpose it to track my books and movies.

Watched the first three episodes of Based on a True Story. I like it. Dark humor. Podcast with a serial killer. Kaley Cuoco. Good stuff. A Peacock original.

rpallred,

@KimberlyABettes my wife and I really enjoyed it.

Definitely, after iOS 17 update, iPhone 14 performs really bad regarding the battery.

rpallred,

@torresburriel is this beyond the typical post-upgrade, lots of background tasks battery drain? I normally see a dramatic decline for a day or two after a major upgrade, then it returns to normal…

She sells sea shells on the sea shore is not the wisest business plan.

rpallred,

@john1954moi I don’t know—last time I took my youngest to the beach there was nary a shell in sight.
I would have bought some shells on the sea shore had a sea shore shell shop been selling some.

If you use Zoom to convey any proprietary information, including business meetings, you should consider switching to something else.

If you’re a medical provider talking over Zoom, you probably should check with your HIPAA lawyers about this clause.

EDIT: The relevant section is 10.4.

rpallred,

@drahardja wouldn’t your BAA cover that if you're a medical provider?

Regardless of your personal feelings on the matter, every reputable professional healthcare organization, including the AMA, AAFP, AAP, APA, and APA, recommend affirming care for trans youth. Stop allowing states to insert themselves between patients and their providers. https://apple.news/AkrIM8UytTW6xUGhhCVMnzg

Has anyone working from home switched to a speakers and open mic setup for regular meetings instead of a headset? I am considering trying and would be interested in recommendations. My extensive headphone use is starting to get to me, I think.

rpallred,

@malderi I use the mic and speakers built into my LG Ultrafine 5K docked with my MBP and have been very happy with that--but I know others prefer higher quality sound...

rpallred,

@malderi with Zoom, Teams, and WebEx with no complaints. And sounds good to me too.

When did inserting the cursor on the correct line in on iOS become such a pain in the ass? It simply does not want to go where it obviously should go.

I’ve noticed since at least iOS 15.

🏡 Manage accounts directly from the app
🪄 Create, save, and sign in with passkeys, and more

Here’s what we’ve been up to: https://blog.1password.com/new-features-unlocked-summer-2023/

rpallred,

@1password I’ve loved the passkey implementation. Good job!

rpallred,

@fnando @1password I haven’t seen the issue for a while—when it was happening, I would disable and re-enable browser integration after each upgrade and that seemed to fix it.

Tip of the day: For many people, tags are a useful way of segregating or creating contextual relationships between items. Some prefer a small set of broad tags, while others create deep, specific tag lists. But sometimes tags can seem to appear out of nowhere. These could come in, e.g., from the outside world through Finder tags. (…) https://www.devontechnologies.com/blog/20210504-avoid-overtagging-in-devonthink

rpallred,

@geraint @eric @devontechnologies i have DT set to add tags on import. I clean up the tags after import to remove ones I don’t want while a file is in the global inbox—when I classify or move the document to the new database, do all the weird tags get re-applied?

rpallred,

@devontechnologies @eric usually drag and drop to the Gobal Inbox, or dropping to the Inbox folder in Finder. Most things tag just fine—but some documents (think medical bills, financial statements) may have some useless tags added on import.
