It turns out that raising taxes on the rich helps address state budget shortages. Previously, #Massachusetts was wringing its hands about impending budget cuts. Now, it is trying to figure out how to spend a budget surplus after a voter-approved millionaires tax brought in twice as much revenue as expected. https://www.wgbh.org/news/politics/2024-05-21/millionaires-tax-revenue-reaches-1-8-billion-on-pace-to-double-estimates?ref=fixthenews.com

Looking for help from and / or Apple Mac people.

I have before me an old MacBook Pro running 10.13.6. It can't be upgraded because of hardware constraints.

No browser on this device will render the schedule here: https://www.emfcamp.org/schedule/2024

I see JS console errors like "TypeError: Object.groupBy is not a function"

I've tried , , and .

Is it possible a script on that page relies on an OS feature this machine lacks?

"Note that Recall does not perform content moderation. It will not hide information such as passwords or financial account numbers."

The computer, however, will stop you from recording DRM'd content.

Find it fascinating that when faced with drawing safety and security boundaries, the primary beneficiary is not the owner of the device, or the person using it, but random corporations who control the intellectual property rights.

The system doesn't work for you.

People who were repeatedly vaccinated for COVID-19 — initially receiving shots aimed at the original variant, followed by boosters and updated vaccines targeting variants — generated antibodies capable of neutralizing a wide range of SARS-CoV-2 variants and even some distantly related coronaviruses.

So I noticed that the "now playing" info on the KEXP website comes from a paginated API endpoint that let's you see previously played songs as well as the currently playing track.

It was kinda neat to poke at it to see how far back I could go. You could just keep rewinding to see all the tracks that aired going pretty far back.

And just how far back was that? 2,650,000 tracks, all the way back to 2005.

I love finding little secret info holes like this. I scraped all that data up to play with.

Tip of the day: #DEVONthink is a good place to keep your literature, because you can add a lot of bibliographic data as metadata. One source for such data is Crossref, and with a script you can easily import metadata from there to #DEVONthink. The Supreme Court's "code of ethics" has no enforcement mechanism and no way for the public to lodge complaints of misconduct.

SCOTUS Justices are being allowed to police themselves, which they've already proven they can't do.

Is it any wonder why Americans don't trust them?

Trump's Mar-a-Lago trial should've started today, but the judge (whom he appointed) delayed it.

The Jan 6 trial should've been in March, but the Supreme Court's MAGA justices delayed that too.

If Trump was innocent, you'd think he'd want to clear his name before the election.

In 2016 Trump pledged to ban abortion & punish anyone who gets one.

His judicial picks overturned Roe.

He's surrounded himself with sworn enemies of reproductive rights.

No matter how much backtracking he tries to do, know that he will ban abortion if given a chance.

Rules often have unintended consequences. But I suspect that some people knew this was going to happen, or have noticed it happening over the last twelve years. And I wonder what about the rule-making process made it so that those voices weren't listened to.

Just a reminder to always beware of not only spam calls, but also spam text messages. Here is one I got today. If you ever get one like this, never click on the link. I actually never open the message screen. I always delete it as an unread message. If you ever wonder if could actually be about a package you are suppose to receive, then go to the site you purchased it from, and check the shipping status. This is another reason it might be good to use an app like Parcel, so you can track any shipments that you will be receiving.
