ryuko,

Or perhaps it was the hundredth time one of our software engineers had innocently pushed out an img tag with an empty src attribute. Nobody joining the team could be expected to know that in early versions of IE, the browser would load the root path “/” for empty src attributes. The img tag would suddenly behave like an iframe, loading our homepage and all of its dependent resources in what could become an exponentially expanding recursive loop.

Amazing, the Trident engine really was something else. Also interesting, based on the web browser graph at the end, there were still people using IE6 in 2012, wild.

ryuko,

I have a 2DS XL with custom firmware, since emulation isn't perfect yet, and the console is infinitely portable.
I also have a hacked Vita, but that doesn't get much use anymore since it was just a Persona 3 Portable and 4 Golden machine, and that's now on PC. It's still sometimes handy to play niche games that were never ported to other platforms.

ryuko,

I was cautiously optimistic that a sequel would be good after the first one, and I guess lightning can strike twice.

ryuko,

Is it possible to get around this with user agent spoofing? Or maybe degoogled Chromium?

ryuko,

Bitwarden or KeePass as open source password managers. KeyPass is entirely local, unless you sync your password database on the cloud, and Bitwarden is cloud based but with the option to self host the server (I recommend Vaultwarden, it's lighter and written in Rust).

Joplin for note taking, especially if you use Markdown.

KDE connect for sharing files quickly between desktop and mobile - it's better than the proprietary fast share protocols I've tried.

Termux, for shell access and running Linux distros, albeit heavily limited.

Fritter as a Twitter client alternative, though I'm already avoiding Twitter for the most part.

ryuko,

Some of the functionality was lost, such as clicking through the trending section to see trending tweets:

https://lemmy.ml/pictrs/image/cabfcb59-49c9-416e-8180-3a45dae73444.jpeg

For the most part though, it works for reading tweet threads and viewing media, which is all I use it for now. If you're installing Fritter through F-Droid, you have to install the beta- the old stable version was completely broken by Twitter's API changes.

ryuko,

Forgot one, Tachiyomi, if you read manga.

ryuko,

You can still use it to just read tweets, but I've never been a heavy Twitter user in the first place so I'm not sure if anything major is broken in Fritter beta.

ryuko,

More at risk than when a bunch of rioters literally stormed the Capitol? Trying to usurp the democracy?

ryuko,

The Libreddit frontend is completely JavaScript free, so that kinda layout could definitely work for Reddit alternatives. I haven't really looked at the Lemmy source code yet, but I'd assume it would still take a decent amount of engineering effort to also add a feature to serve up HTML-only pages.

ryuko,

Cave Johnson: Here at Aperture Science, we're proud to celebrate pride month. To celebrate, we've got a test for you: fighting an army of mantis men. Pick up a rifle and follow the yellow line. You'll know when the test starts.

ryuko,
ryuko,

Hopefully lab grown meat takes off, but I guess we'll see if it's any better environmentally. The current meat alternatives like beyond or impossible are okay, but nutrition-wise, it's not any healthier for you.

Also, I can't imagine the volume of greenhouse gases the cattle farming released, it's a double whammy along with the deforestation.

ryuko,

For sure. I just can't understand why the anti-LGBTQ mindset just can't accept that queer folks just want to be accepted as who they are. Instead, we get rallies that are pretty much people wanting to dehumanize their fellow neighbors.

How "aggressively" is Google banning accounts that use Aurora Store to download apps from the Google Play store?

There are some games that aren't working on my phone and I wanted to try playing them in Waydroid on my computer running Ubuntu, however, there is a problem. Some of them are games that I've paid for but Google is refusing to allow me access to the Google play store from within Waydroid. So the only way (as far as I can tell)...

ryuko,

Have you tried this: https://docs.waydro.id/faq/google-play-certification ? Gapps on Waydroid can be finicky but the Play Store should work for downloading purchased apps.

I don't think anyone knows the specific metric for accounts being banned after being used with Aurora Store, but I'd say it's risky enough that you should try to get the Play Store working on Waydroid.

ryuko,

It's pretty eerie how similar the trends are, and AI bros are insufferable.

ryuko,

I have been posting way more than I ever did on Reddit- it helps that the Beehaw and Lemmy communities feel a lot more friendly and open.

ryuko,

tl;dr: Anything from estrogen for women experiencing menopause, to prescribing hormones for those who have developed secondary sex characteristics that don't match their AGAB, but are still otherwise cisgender.
