s38b35M5, to fortnite in Owner of previous Battle pass skins, would you care if they suddenly appeared in the shop?
@s38b35M5@lemmy.world avatar

Yes. the idea of scarcity/rarity is what makes my family pat for the battle pass some seasons. If the rewards of the pass aren’t enticing to is, we don’t bother. If we spend money and grind, only to see those skins for sale, it’s a betrayal of sorts.

Thx for this comment.

My main drive for self hosting is to escape data harvesting and arbitrary query limits, and to say, “I did this.” I fully expect it to be painful and not very fulfilling…

Haven’t done this yet, but this is a source I saved in response to a similar question a while back.

I’m also interested in the true size comparison without the skewed size that occurs further and further from the equator when you make a flat, rectangular map from a sphere.

We call those “whisker balls” in our house, but I love peanut whiskers.

s38b35M5, to asklemmy in Do you dream? How often?
@s38b35M5@lemmy.world avatar

I dream in a fashion that I “experience” the dream and remember it later, but only around the changing of the seasons. For instance, in Central America where I live, were transitioning into the rainy season soon. I’ve been dreaming so vividly for the pas two weeks, and only started feeling rested two nights ago.

In a week or so, that will taper back to rarely remembering ant dreams, and not surface again until October or November when our dry season starts again. (Disclaimer: we haven’t had a rainy season with rain the past two Yeats, but we still call it the rainy season)

When I lived in New England, it was the same, but four times a year, and most pronounced in the fall-to-winter and spring-to-summer transitions.

That’s not to say I never dream outside of those times, but rarely remember, and not consecutively. Last night I had one dream from 3am to 7am. I woke up once and used the bathroom and easily returned to the same dream, albeit subdued.

s38b35M5, to privacy in Thoughts on Google turning every device into a scanner for Find My Device?
@s38b35M5@lemmy.world avatar

If you’re unfamiliar with the change being implemented, Google is using every android device to detect every other device and report that location to a central database. You can then go to the Find My Device app or website and your device can be located if it’s been seen by any other device.

There’s no need for the user to access anybody else’s device.

My concern is that my privacy is now being invaded by all the scanning devices in my area, and everybody’s movements are even more transparent for the data brokers.

I’ve been expecting Google to kill it like they tend to do with everything people start to like, but it’s been over 7 years already, and still going.

Don’t jinx it!!! 😉

I’ll be checking this out tonight; thanks for the tip!
