Agreed. Sharing nudes is risky, and something people should consider wisely.
I just don’t agree with the weird victim blaming that is going on here and the idea that if a woman shares her photos then she shouldn’t expect any privacy.
… You know, reading some of the replies and attitudes here towards the nudes part, the phrase “It’s her fault for dressing so provocatively” comes to mind.
Edit: Compassion 101, because apparently we’re doing this:
You have no right to tell anyone what to do with their body provided that everyone consents and fully understands the situation.
If you know things that they might have missed, gently let them know, but back off if they don’t want your input.
If something bad happens to someone, even if it is their fault, for the love of god don’t lecture them on how it was their fault. Give them emotional support and advice on how to fix things, not what they should have done in the past.
Yeah, but the correct response to that is “okay, you should have checked that the door was locked before you headed off” rather than “well, you should never leave your house because the lockpicking lawyer can unlock doors in seconds”.
It’s a massive overcorrection imo to say that because there’s a chance they might get leaked then it’s her “fault” for doing it in the first place.
It’s also misogynistic as hell to blame a woman because she trusted a man who betrayed that trust.
It’s obnoxious for people to tell people what risks to take. And demonstrates a complete lack of compassion to lecture people when these risks don’t pan out.
That’s the issue here, which people seem to be missing.
I guess the idea is that restricting access to a backback with “I have a bomb” is a violation of Free Speech. Which causes those people that think everyone wants to talk about politics to come out the woodwork.
I’m a bi autistic kinky furry who’s into privacy. Kindly please stop posting things that remind me that life sucks. Ta.
These discussions are certainly worth having… Just not on a funny chess meme where the audience probably already agrees with your views. You aren’t going to change society by spamming to online message boards.
Counterpoint: I recently got a Blu-ray player and honestly it feels like it’d be much cheaper than streaming. Especially for someone who doesn’t actually watch that much.
It feels like you have to have multiple accounts nowadays because everything keeps changing what platform they are on, and pulling things from their platform for one reason or another.
Take for example: I wanted to watch the “new” Puss in Boots movie (it’s really good, would recommend). If I wanted to watch it on Netflix, it’d cost me £11 a month every time I wanted to see it and it’d be limited to 720p. However, buying the Blu-ray cost me £7, and I can watch it whenever I want.
Sure, if you watch multiple things a month, or latest releases, streaming might make sense. But it’s certainly worth looking into whether occasional physical purchases might end up cheaper in the long run.
Like, just buy a bunch of USB-C cables; they’re cheap. Maybe some HDMI and audio ones. Maybe splurge for the braided ones if you want to be fancy. It saves you from the problem of only having one that works that you have to keep juggling around, or not having one on hand when you need it. Different lengths and colours as well, so you don’t have super long ones going all over the place, and can distinguish them at a glance.
I read “it’s dying” by people on Discord and Reddit all the time, but the numbers prove otherwise. It’s been going up this entire time and sitting over 3 billion MONTHLY ACTIVE USERS!...
Given that that’s a third of the world population, I think they may be misreporting their users. Meta has been caught boosting numbers artificially before (when they released Threads they gave everyone who had an Instagram account a free Threads account, and then bragged about how fast their social network was growing).
There are multiple reasons depending on who you ask and the specific instance:
Privacy - Meta has a really bad track record of user privacy. There is the worry that federating with them will result in them scraping user data from users (which IMO is a bit silly - Meta can and probably is scraping all the available public information anyway, defederating doesn’t really fix that).
Moderation - Meta is notoriously bad (compared to Fediverse servers) at moderating their content. Admins and mods don’t want to have to spend a lot of time dealing with trolls coming from Threads.
Terms of service - I’ve not looked into it, but I assume that Threads have a strict acceptable use policy on content on other instances, which presumably they enforce unilaterally. Instance admins might not want to deal with complying with that, so just don’t bother federating at all.
Ideology - “The fediverse should not be influenced by a company!” Not all instances are like this, but there are some that see the fediverse as a statement against capitalist greed and megacorps.
The only information that actually gets federated to other servers is public information that is globally visible anyway. Fediverse servers don’t (or at least SHOULDN’T) trust each other.
It’s not actually that hard to index and store the information, especially if you just want textual post data - Mastodon at least can serve you an easy to parse version of a user’s posts if you request it. Sure you need to poll for the information rather than it just being sent to you, but I think if they were motivated enough they could do it.
Even if there are behaviours which the autistic person wants to have fixed, aba is a bad way about going around it.
It (and conversation therapy, which is based on the same idea) are based on an outdated theory that everything is a “behaviour” and can be cured by forming habits. That is, you can cure autistic traits with practice and repetition in the same way that you can force yourself to walk every day to make that a habit.
That’s not the case; they aren’t behaviours that can be “trained away”. The “cure” should be working with the person to find effective coping strategies.
Imagine you had a broken leg, and rather than getting it put into a cast, they instead forced you to walk for a mile a day on because “not being able to walk interferes with your ability to live a fulfilling and happy life”.
I’ve been wondering for a while now whether loyalty to a group of people is a trait that is more commonly found in non-autistic people. Would explain so much.
Yeah, I more meant that if they were a caregiver themselves then they would more likely call out bad caregivers, rather than just silently accept it because they don’t want to make waves.
So I’m very sceptical about AI in general so I appreciate that this isn’t a product aimed at me, but I’d figured I’d engage a bit.
My main question is… What do you think the main value add for the AI is? The main one I can see is being able to generate lore quickly, and then manually tweaking it to your liking. But you could use a general purpose genAI to do that.
For managing character sheets, you have the problem of accuracy. GenAI chatbots are just bullshitting machines and are programmed to be convincing, not correct. How are you going to prevent your chatbot from saying wrong things? How are you going to get players to trust it?
Most rules conflicts in ttrpgs are due to people having different interpretations of the rules. Is your bot going to be just another voice in the argument as to whether you can split a jump over two turns?
What advantage does a chatbot bring over a dedicated system specific wizard? Sure they need specifically programmed for each new system, but then they work perfectly and can display fancy user interfaces.
Since you are using genAI, how ethically and legally sourced is your training data? Are things we type going to be used to train the bot? You have a summary feature to summarise sessions, how does that work if players use voice chat to run their games? Will voice chat we use when interacting with the platform be recorded?
A fun little challenging question you need to figure out sooner rather than later: Will NSFW stuff such as porn and bdsm be allowed in the platform? :P
And a more practical question: How much does the subscription cost? If it’s “free”, what’s your monetisation strategy?
Lastly… Stop throwing the word “proprietary” around so much. It comes across as super clingy.
