Organic Maps is nice, but working with GPX files is still very terrible. It has no direct way to import GPX files created on desktop, you can only open them from the disk, and they will look very strange, not like routes but like a bookmark. But as I see, Magic Earth has even worse capabilities for GPX.

I guess you cannot watch this one without knowledge about Gundam. You need to know at least about civil war and the role of Hathway-senior in it… Otherwise you can enjoy mecha battles scenes but you will lose a plot.

How hard is to replace the whole groupset?

I was going to upgrade my bike (Decathlon Triban 100) and ordered the whole new groupset (Shimano SORA). It will be delivered soon, so my question is how hard is the replacing process? It is not a problem to pay in local bike service for the replacement but I’m also interested in trying by myself. I have a repairment kit and...

I bought all the things exactly like in this post on Refdit. So, it should work without changing a wheel and also I ordered front derailleur of “B” (Band-Type) series that is suitable for mounting without special mount. I hope it will fit, otherwise it will be a huge waste of money (about a half of the new Triban 100 price).

Triban 100 is a nice bike for it’s price and I had a lot of good time with it. But after my last trip to one of National Parks with small-scale mountains (about 1000-1500 meters above the sea) I realized that it is very hard to go up with 44/28 lowest gear. Maybe bying the whole new bike will be easier but I already named my Triban 100 and also I do not like to buy new thing and produce waste when I can upgrade existing one. With Sora I will have 34/34 and it should cover elevations up to 20% that is enough for the most of beautiful places around me.

For example, you can resolve a lot of blockers of scaling quantum computers based on superconductive qubits.

sem,
@sem@lemmy.ml avatar

I think that if you can scale your physical qubits easily you will be able to use all the power of error correction codes. Even a thousand of physical qubits per one logical qubit should be feasible if you do not need to support superconductivity by helium coolers.

Sad story. I have been donating to WWF Russia for a long time untile they was banned. They did really good projects in the region. Why our fcking government banned them? So sad to see it…

I'm using the managed solution from Hetzner (they name it "Storage Share" but it is just the same Nextcloud). Here you have the admin rights in your own instance, including setup keys, cryptography, access, etc. I'm paying 4.29 eur/month for 1Tb of storage (including all the services of Nextcloud, like tasks, contacts, etc.).

I think that maintaining the own Nextcloud on the EC2-like instances will be even more expensive and also requires a lot of time. So, for me managed solution with control over keys is a good balance of privacy and control over data versus number of efforts and technical complexity.

conditioned to hate socialism

It is exactly my case. I was born in USSR in the moment of its failure, and I have very strong anti-socialism feeling and association between socialism and dictatorship. Maybe the reason is that USSR wasn't a "real socialism"...

They weren't hit by WWII, Nazism is not a tragedy for them, so why should they care?

Better analogy is inside the publication as a quote of Aldo Lamorte, a member of parliament with the president’s conservative National Party:

“The Roman Coliseum was NOT destroyed because Christians were killed there.”

It is not how capitalism works. At first individuals should start prefer local production and production of more green companies. And only after that corporations change their politics. For example, there is a yearly rating of green electronics (how much green electricity company uses, how clean production is, etc.) but customers do not care. And if customers do not care, why corporations should care?

the governments job

I do not believe that government can do something good. Of course the idea of regulation is good by itself but due to corruption and inefficiency of any government structure result will be more likely opposite (yes, I'm an anarchist and believe that only self-regulation may work).

to trace the incredibly complex chains of businesses and processes

Today it is easier than one may think: a lot of certifications and information from non-profit organization. A lot of mobile apps and sites that allow you to check how green the product is. The only missing part is request from customers side. And until we do not have such request, IMO, nothing will change.

Corporations have the wealth to change things

Because corporation are not working for common good but are working for their shareholders that invest their money to corporation. Corporations are ruled by board members that approved to position by shareholders. And board members are responsible to shareholders first not to humanity. My point was that if customers start prefer green production corporation will start focus on it but not opposite. Request from the market, from consumers should be first.

Genex Tower, Belgrade, Serbia. (lemmy.ml)

Genex Tower (or Western City Gate) is one of the most famous examples of Yugoslavian brutalism architecture. The sky scraper was built in 1979 by architect Mihajlo Mitrović. The left part of the building contained apartments and the right part was suited for offices. In communist era there was the office of "Generalexport" here...

For me modernist architecture of 70s looks like something from pages of novels of the Science Fiction Golden Age. I agree that it may look suppressing but for me there is something cosmic in it, something breath-taking. It is like the artifact from the era when people were still dreaming about stars :)

Hotel Jugoslavija, Belgrade, Serbia. (lemmy.ml)

Built in 1969 by architect Lavoslav Horvat. A nice example of socialist modernism in architecture and Yugoslavian architecture. In communist-era it was used for foreign delegation and diplomats but it is semi-abandoned today and, as I know, is not used as a hotel anymore. More information may be found in wikipedia....
