I have just noticed that Sengi has LibreTranslate built in to translate text from different languages to the one is selected as the default language in the settings 😎. Kudos 👍 for using an a FLOSS solution for translating instead of the more mainstream google translate. 😄

Sengi is only providing access to the translator available in your instance. So if your instance use LibreTranslate, kudos to your instance's admin. 😉

@sengi_app Hello! How can I have my Federated Timeline in chronological order? The toots seem to generally load in chronological order, but as I scroll down a ways, I'll notice some from hours in the past mixed in with some that are only a few minutes old. I've disabled boosts and replies and the problem continues.

@TheFreshBeets can you check if you have the same issue in the official MastodonUI? Federated content can have some discrepancies when some old posts finally gets federated.

Both:
Sengi is a webapp, and currently at the 1.6.0 version.
The snap build is an Electron wrapper, currently at the 1.8.0 version.

Both are from different repository too. 🙂

@fabzgy indeed, two pieces of software.

The thing you installed is just a way to load and host the webapp in a convenient way for a desktop usage. It has its own codebase and versioning.

And the webapp (that can be loaded via a regular browser or the Electron wrapper) also has its own codebase and versioning.

I understand it can be misleading tho.

@sengi_app Just noticed a funny little mistake in the current version, the package is Sengi 1.8.0.deb, but in the preferences it says version 1..6.0

Sengi (the web app) is currently in v1.6.0.

Sengi Electron, the Electron wrapper for Sengi webapp, is in v1.8.0.

It's two separated projects/repositories and therefore, versions. 🙂

@sengi_app Seems like this would be a Frequently Asked Question but I couldn't find anything on it; is Sengi usable in a context where you don't have the ability to right click, i.e. on a mobile screen?

Sengi is mostly oriented to be a desktop only experience, so not so great on other form factor.

But - and that's something that amaze me - I know that there are some users of Sengi that do use it on mobile etc, so... it's possible. 🙂

@spacewizard it is indeed an unusual design choice. 🙂

I have to say that I'm a bit upset against the trend of making UI dumb due to dumb and limited peripherals. And that's why when making Sengi the N°1 objective was to make something really towards desktop users and their peripherals, without concessions for other usages (that already got a lot of good apps and tools).

Also, most FOSS I do is usually "what I'd like to use myself" and I share it afterward. So it's opiniated for sure.

@spacewizard ahah yes, been there too. I think every user of Sengi (myself included) needs to get used to this "it's way too easy to use the wrong account", but that's also the power of the tool.

@mjhn les listes dans mastodon c'est vraiment le truc mal foutu... mais ce n'est pas qu'un choix d'UX, il y a une réalité technique derrière.

Si mastodon force le suivi (ce que ne fait pas tout les logiciels AP : Pleroma notamment ne le force pas) pour ajouter dans une liste, c'est que sinon... ça risque de ne pas fonctionner.

Imaginons que tu soit sur une petite instance et que personne ne suit le compte, si jamais tu ajoute le compte dans une liste (si le logiciel le permet), elle (...)

@mjhn restera toujours vide et n'affichera jamais le contenu posté par ledit compte, ou seulement le contenu qui sera boosté par d'autres comptes suivi par les membres de l'instance.

Car il faut qu'une instance ai un follower pour que le système y envoie le contenu.
