I am shocked this got approved already, and unaltered too.

ScummVM, Provenance, Ignited and Folium are all stuck in review, and as far as I can tell this is the complete RetroArch with no changes or compromises.

It’s also already the best PSX emulator because it doesn’t crash with external controllers and supports hi resolution.

I just wish RetroArch in general had a better interface. The XMB interface isn’t bad on PC but on mobile it’s just so clunky.

EDIT - They also have an Apple TV version!! I’m even more shocked.

EDIT 2 - PPSSPP Standalone also launched! apps.apple.com/ca/app/…/id6496972903

I know, but the only touch optimized one is glui and it just doesn’t look good. It’s more than a skin issue too, the app is just clunky.

I appreciate that it has so many options, but if it offered just a simplified layer similar to Delta, it would be amazing. Right now it just throws too much at you for the person who just wants to just play a game.

Yeah I think it really depends on the type and consistency of your earwax. I’ve been using Q-Tips deep in my ears for my whole life, I assumed now at 32 I had impacted my hearing and had a treasure trove in there, so I bought one of those $20 WiFi ear cams with a scoop you can get from Amazon.

So disappointed, they were sparkling clean. Turns out my ears ARE effectively self cleaning which is why I use the Q-Tips, it helps clean out what my ears have already started ejecting, because that process is wet and itchy.

shinratdr,
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

That only happens to people with a very specific type of earwax.

Source: assumed everyone saying this online was correct and bought the camera myself to look. Sparkling clean despite using Q-Tips every day for most of my life.

It also doesn’t help that this is a self-selecting group. I know I wouldn’t trust anyone who says this what they want in a partner, as the venn diagram between partners who want this and those who treat their partners poorly has more than a little overlap. Like cops and domestic abuse.

You heard him game companies. Never bother fixing a mistake, because people who live to complain will just continue to complain, and everyone else won’t care.

Sure that’s the message you want to send?

I think the studio closures was just the last straw. Like they spent almost $100 billion and they’ve made NOTHING. Like not one goddamn thing.

Say what you will about Sony and Nintendo but they have output and they care about gaming because they have to, it’s the only way they make money.

Microsoft could shutter their gaming division tomorrow and they would save money, not lose it. Whatever exec championed the buyouts for Game Pass is clearly gone or asleep at the wheel. So the end result is they own WoW, Candy Crush and CoD that print money and a bunch of franchises that haven’t seen a good release in 10+ years.

The fact that they bought inExile, Obsidian and Bethesda and didn’t immediately start work on a Fallout 1/2 remake or an FNV sequel is evidence enough they they have no fucking clue what they’re doing. How does a company own so many studios and make no games!?

shinratdr,
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

Take a look at Sony’s annual reports and then get back to me. PlayStation is the engine that drives the company.

  1. Revenue is not profit.
  2. Gaming is by far the biggest bar in that graph.

I stand by my point.

The sad part is this might actually end up being a net positive in the long run. Their two biggest acquisitions were Bethesda and Activision-Blizzard, one company that has started their decline and another that is deep into it.

Microsoft pissing away $100B to buy these companies only to turn around and kill them 5-10 years later will end up breaking up the gaming conglomerates that have killed the western games industry. The only sad part is all the people that will lose their jobs and all the classic IP that will be squandered.

No shit it loses money. It’s a service. Not everything has to be run at a profit. Bring weekend and the return of direct to door delivery. Provide better shipping rates and services, combine parcel and mail delivery. Only deliver mail when critical items arrive or with packages.

I feel like there are creative ways to balance it, but they’ll always run at a loss if they have to cover this giant country and provide equal services. I’m fine with that, it’s a great use of taxes.

shinratdr,
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

Wow it’s almost like buying up half the gaming industry and then producing literally nothing wasn’t a great idea.

Has there been a successful spinoff in the last 20 years? Excluding the mill show genres that lend themselves to spinoffs like reality, home & garden, police procedural, etc. Basically spinoffs that exist so they can just make more of the same mediocre thing.

I can only think of Better Call Saul. I feel like spinoffs of shows that are actually good as a concept are best left in the 70s & 80s.

It’s worth noting The Office already has two spinoffs, Parks & Rec which basically only became good when it shed 100% of its Office influence, and the horrible Rainn Wilson show that nobody remembers.

shinratdr,
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

I was more thinking of shows that are universally considered “good” or at least critically acclaimed. I know a lot of people like BBT (and many hate it deeply) but it doesn’t really come up in conversation when people are discussing good shows.

shinratdr,
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

Yeah I realize what I am considering a “show” is a much more narrow definition that really only exists in my own head lol. YA shows are another genre that lend themselves to spinoffs that forgot about.

I guess what I’m thinking of is critically acclaimed shows that are considered to be good by the majority of the public at the time. But that’s a narrow enough definition that it’s essentially meaningless so I concede the point.

I’ve watched the entire Jenny Nicholson video on The Vampire Diaries like 3 times so I’m definitely familiar. Not for me personally, but I can appreciate the appeal.

Didn’t mean to denigrate it or anything.

shinratdr,
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

Parks and Rec had the same production team as The Office and the concept came from NBC asking them to produce an Office spinoff.

You’re right, it’s not a true spinoff. However it was the first shot at an Office spinoff.

King of the Hill would also almost count too, but yeah it’s still a stretch considering it started in the 90s.

I don’t think big companies know how to make a good FPS campaign anymore, let alone hone in on classic deathmatch multiplayer. The last FPS I bought was Half-Life: Alyx four years ago, and the first one to come along and interest me since then was Phantom Fury, but I’m letting that one iron out bugs for a few weeks before I...

Has Microsoft put out a single worthwhile AAA title in the entire console generation? I bought an Xbox Series X after the Bethesda acquisition and I’ve used it once to boot up Starfield and then quit after 15 minutes when I realized it was boring as hell.

They have this uncanny ability to spend more money on acquisitions and then completely stall the output from that company until every game blows.

They had one good franchise that they didn’t run into the ground, Halo. And after they got control of it they killed that too. They own half the industry now and I feel like they produce less games than ever before.

I feel like they’re going to get bored, kill their games division in 5 years and the whole industry will have to rebuild.

AliExpress isn’t the problem here. This is fake Shopify sites spun up and down in a matter of days that only exist to harvest info and payment. I’ve placed dozens of AliExpress orders, I always get what I ordered even from new stores.

shinratdr,
@shinratdr@lemmy.ca avatar

Yep. Just try and logic people to death instead of wondering why they feel that way and taking it to heart to try and not be part of the problem.

If people actually had this choice, we all know most would choose a person over a bear. But it does speak to the fact that people have mostly good experiences with wild animals that are supposed to be a danger to them and lots of bad experiences with random men. They’ve felt threatened and have actually been assaulted by men, and not by bears.

Your chances of being killed by a bear are slim to none. Meanwhile the leading cause of death for pregnant women in the US is homicide. These are the kind of things people think about when weighing these kinds of problems in the abstract.

So the real question is why wouldn’t women fear those that have actually harmed them vs a group that honestly just wants to keep to themselves and has no interest in you unless you’re a threat?
