slanderoid, to Halloween

It's September 15th! That means it's the official start of the Spooky Season 🦇 I'm celebrating day one by:

  1. Starting to read "The Only Good Indians" by Stephen Graham Jones. It's got tons of ghost deer, so I'm pumped!

  2. Watching "The Twilight Zone" reboot. The first story was creepy and interesting!

  3. Playing "Signalis". It had me hooked after I picked up a copy of "The King in Yellow" in-game

slanderoid, to Help

This might be a long shot, but we're striking out everywhere else on the internet so I thought I'd try here:

My wife bought this while thrifting yesterday. The problem is, we don't know what it is 😅 It looks like a lamp base... but I'm skeptical because there's no hole for a power cord. Could it be something else?

Also, we're curious about who made it. There is a signature but it's hard to read and googling it has been fruitless

Any help would be appreciated!

The artist's signature is painted in gold on the side. It says either "Jay H" or "Joy H" but nothing comes up when we Google either of them
The bottom is wide open. This would make sense for a lamp but, again, there's nowhere for a power cord to go through. Maybe it's missing a piece on the bottom?
The top only had this tiny hole. I suggested it could be a vase for grasses or something else narrow, but I don't have any expertise in this area 😅

I'm still (STILL) sick but I'm finally starting to feel better. But, since I've had plenty of time on my hands, I decided to finally finish the Borderlands games so I can be up to speed for the probably awful movie coming out this year. A thread ⤵️

slanderoid, to TheMatrix

I just finished The Matrix trilogy and now I have some Thoughts :thonk:

I haven't been drinking any beer lately, so I've been drinking ginger beer (and ale). I've been looking for one I like and, in the process, I've tried several different kinds. I thought I'd post my thoughts here. Microblogging at its finest

I'll start with a good one: I've really enjoyed this local-ish brand, Sioux City. It has a sweet start and a spicy finish. It manages to maintain a very well-struck balance between the two. I'll be getting this one again, for sure! 👍👍

The mushroom people are my people 🍄 I'll do anything they want me to do - no matter how heinous

There are now three (3) country stations that rotate over the PA system at work... 😖 The good news is that one of my favorite Sturgill Simpson songs is playing right now, so that's pretty awesome

Just woke up to some kind of surprise weather event happening. Crazy winds, non-stop lightning... At first I wondered if there was a tornado happening without anybody telling us

slanderoid, to random

Welp, I'm sick today. It's not the way I wanted my weekend to go... But I'm going to make the most of it by having a movie day 😄 So far, this is what I've got lined up:

  • They Cloned Tyrone
  • An American Satan
  • Dungeons & Dragons: Honor Among Thieves
  • M3gan

Umm... That's all I can think of right now. I'm no good at keeping up with movies, so any suggestions would be appreciated. I'm open to anything, really. I might need some for tomorrow, too, after all 😅

Maybe I just live in a weird part of the world but I can think of a lot of people I know personally who would tell you that a Ouija board will summon evil ghosts that will haunt you to death and will also say that unearthing the putrefied remains of ancient creatures and blowing them up in our combustion engines is good, actually

What a bonkers fucking world, man

I don't like the recent tradition of horror games including a lot of (or only) one-hit kills. I don't find dying frequently scary - I just find it annoying. Give me a life meter, give me chances, give me negative effects for doing something wrong

A ticking clock (like a dwindling health bar) creates far more tension for me than the imminent threat of being annoyed. And making the wrong decision in a game fills me with an indescribable dread

Horror doesn't have to mean "dying"

I'm nearly halfway done with my workday and I haven't produced anything but expensive waste (which is being closely monitored by corporate for the foreseeable future.) It's the most difficult product to make at the machine that I hate the most. All because the guy that does this full time now dipped out to avoid being in this exact situation himself. I feel like all of my blood vessels are going to burst simultaneously

So, uh, yeah, death to capitalism

slanderoid, to random

I'm a few hours into "Chained Echoes" and I'm starting to see why it has gotten so much praise

I've had a hard time enjoying indie RPGs... they seem to have a bunch of systems tacked on to make them stand out and I quickly forget half of them. This one does, too, but they're all really fun and immediately gratifying. Maybe it's a good UI or tutorial, or maybe I'm just getting better at remembering that stuff... Regardless, I'm really having fun with this one 😄 I'm excited to play more of it!

slanderoid, to gaming

Aww yeah, another game completed! 🥳 That final boss in the True Final Millennium Tower was no joke - but he's done for. Now on to the next one...

Strangely, the more I hear about Final Fantasy XVI, the less eager I am to play it. I'll definitely play it whenever it comes to Steam but I'm not going to sweat it in the meantime. My excitement for new entries in the series is dwindling and I'm not sure how to feel about that...

Starting my Metalocalypse-athon! I'm watching season 4 (because it has a lot of story and I think I've only seen it once 😬), The Doomstar Requiem (because I haven't seen it in probably a decade), and finishing off with the new movie, Army of the Doomstar! I can't wait to see it 😄

Boy, Witchfire sounds like a really fun game that I'd like to try...

Too bad it's only on Epic Games Store ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I'm experiencing some serious burn out since Spooktober... I'm reluctant to read or even play any games. It'll pass - I just don't know what to do in the meantime 🤔
