solarvector,

I’m sorry, kinda hilarious that you had to add a sarcasm tag. And sad.

solarvector,

On the one hand, those are some jackasses that should be fined. On the other hand the jackass caucus is going to be forever trying to use similar measures as a tool to interfere with the democratic process.

solarvector,

Then don’t be part of society is the root of that argument.

Don’t want to be tracked? Don’t use a phone. Or a car.

Don’t want to support exploitative publishers? Don’t read.

Can’t afford rent?

Can’t find a job?

It’s all just blaming people for corporate bullshit.

solarvector,

Notepad is simple

Doesn’t mean it’s the best thing for documentation.

Actually… a readme file is probably better for documentation if you’re really going for simple.

solarvector,

How do you opt out? Stop texting and delete all messages?

solarvector,

It’s a little amusing that they correcty identify that calling evolution a religion is an insult.

solarvector,

He’s also fantastic in Rome, an older HBO show if you haven’t seen that one.

solarvector,

Yeah, most people these days watch the colorized version, but it should really be appreciated in the original black and white.

solarvector,

That image is very hard not to down vote.

And it’s mind blowing that the two options are polling as close as they are.

solarvector,

the people of South Dakota, not the politicians in Pierre, will be the ones to decide whether to restore Roe v. Wade as the law of South Dakota

This reminds that although abortion rights are the most important result of Roe v Wade, there are other rights that were abrogated when it was overturned. It’s hard to say all that was lost, and those generally won’t be recovered with these efforts.

solarvector,

People are worms, stuffed into a meat sack with appendages that make it easier to put food into the worm.

Wot The Fsck You Say, Spotify? (lemmy.world)

Edit: A couple times I’ve said eBook while I actually meant Audiobook. I’ve learned that Spotify has a 15 hour limit per month for their free ‘included in premium’ audiobooks. However these are the two books I listened to for free, and even rounding up to 13 hours it doesn’t make sense, unless they count accidental...

solarvector,

It’s been a while since I had the opportunity for audiobooks, so those specifically I’m a little out of the loop. Audiobookbay was a thing at some point.

For e books… Z-library and/ or Anna’s archive. The reader I use is ReadEra premium, it can handle pretty much any format although default to pick is epub. I don’t think you really need to buy premium, I just did because I wanted to support them. I’ve been using it for forever with almost no problems. You can adjust the things you want (font, spacing, light/dark, etc), but the basic format when reading is very simple once you have it set up

solarvector,

Ok, audiobook isn’t the same as an ebook.

Spotify is absolute ass for audiobooks and podcasts. I wish there was something better for streaming, although one of these days I’ll get around to self hosting. Maybe after retirement…

Anyway, for audiobooks I used “Voice Audiobook Player”, it’s free and open source, minimal permissions required.

For anyone wondering about podcasts, “Podcast Addict”. It has too many menus and options, can be confusing, but still a million times better than Spotify. Once you have it set up the way you want those options are very nice. Still confusing at times though :D

solarvector,

come on guys, I do X because of Y, everyone else must do it for the same reason, and if they claim otherwise they’re definitely lying.

solarvector,

Yes, but also have you seen some game development forums? Oof. Some people just need their gaming chair hooked up to a sun facing launchpad.

solarvector,

Same idea as immunotherapy shots or sublingual drops.

Whether it’s actually local, and if the allergens are actually concentrated enough to make any difference, is a very different question. Set of questions.

solarvector,

“That doesn’t work for me.”

Also,

“You creating and mandating a plan for our future that doesn’t involve discussing my wants and needs shows that you don’t value them”

I don’t have any idea what the rest of your relationship is actually like. From the little here, sounds like you’re ready to move on, and so is she. If she’s giving you that ultimatum from another country she may also be hoping you do the hard part and break up with her, relieving her of whatever feelings of guilt that might be associated. Remember though… No guilt is necessary from either of you to move on. You want different things from the time that you have, and that’s ok.

solarvector,

Microsoft makes its money from business and enterprise customers. Home users are a drop in the bucket.

Money from home users is from stealing data.

I'm so sick of every single medical-related question people have online constantly getting spammed with 'talk to your doctor!!!!'

The way people online constantly say ‘talk to your doctor’ like it’s a panacea is a lot like how medieval peasants weren’t able to read scripture and they just had to trust their clergy’s interpretations...

solarvector,

My favorite is when the question starts out with “I don’t have insurance and can’t afford to see a doctor, but I have dandruff and it just won’t go away”, and the first response is “I know you said you can’t afford it, but you should really just see a doctor”.

Like, sure, homeopathy is slightly better than snake oil because it doesn’t generally have random poison in it, so getting recommendations for that is worthless. But that doesn’t mean asking people who have been through similar things for advice is also worthless.
