"We absolutely must ship what we said we would" Yeah right, everything else they have promised never led to anything, but this, this we have to push through :p
I think this decentralization and federation is what web3 is all about, without all the corporations calling everything to do with monkey pixel art that costs a million dollars "web3"
The problem is that crypto is unregulated, the regulations are there for a reason, to stop things like ponzischemes and all the other things that already has happened that fucked people over. Maybe if they got regulated in some way, so that those things couldn't happen easily, as it is now, I would say no.
While I agree with you it will be sad to see some of the small communities I'm a part of die, maybe some of them will rescurrect, but I have my doubts on some of them, very niche stuff where it's hard to gather together people.
Yeah that's what I thought, that they are scraping like NewPipe is, that usually breaks a couple of times a year when google is messing around with the page, but the developers are usually really quick and fixes it in a day or two so that it works again.
Evening all, This is a really tough post to write but following my post the other day I think the best course of action is to shut down Sync before the new API changes go live.
I've used sync for close to a decade, it is reddit on mobile for me, and now it will disappear, most likely I just won't log into reddit off my pc anymore.
Yeah, when old.reddit goes my reddit time is gone, without old and RES it's unusable, and I just will have to deal with not really being able to spend time on subreddits that I really enjoy, it's just really sad since there aren't really good communities for it anywhere else, at least yet. I hope there will be some time.
hey folks, as you may have noticed we have a lot of new users and a lot of new activity, and with Reddit's... interesting decisionmaking in the past 14 days we're not expecting that to ebb. however, we're currently just 4 people + some very helpful volunteers, and we can't have eyes on everything. so, we're taking mod...
That is very reassuring to hear, I was just reading a thread about moderations and saw some very concerning posts from admins and moderators over at lemmy.ml so I was starting to worry that the same might have been the case here, I think they do themselves a disservice, as the people that really suffer from the Russian/Chinese governments are the russian and chinese people.
A lot of the the moderators and administrations are tankies, so basically left leaning authocrats, they do ban people and delete posts that talk about the genocide of uyghyr people in china for example, or talking against the russian invasion in Ukraine. I have seen both administrators and moderators over there say very dubious things that makes me feel really uncomfortable.
Yeah, I for sure will spend more time here, it's just that some niche places I am probably will never move off of reddit, and it's either that or nothing, once old goes away though, I don't think I will be able to use the site any more.
AAA games are just getting stale for me and I'm looking to mix it up a bit. I really don't have a specific genre I gravitate toward or steer away from. I like trying new stuff and I'm happy to consider anything you enjoy playing!
I am really enjoying apico at the moment, a really cute wholesome game about breeding bees and butterflies, helping to save the species, it's based on the old forestry mod for minecraft which used to be one of my favourites as well.
I really wish that curseforge wasn't a thing, it just has made everything so much harder, they still have no linux version of their launcher, and the windows one is full of different tracking and stuff that makes it a real hassle to use. I do like modrinth a lot, but it's still a bit meager when it comes to stuff hosted there. I still use it when I can though :)
Yup, that's how I ended up on reddit back in the day, when digg did some stupid shit, that I don't even remember wat was any more, but something similar to what reddit is doing now.
I'm currently reading through the "Starship's mage" series by Glynn Stewart, he writes more or less exactly the kind of books that I like, kind of pulpy entertaining competency porn where most of the people are nice to each other. And it does feel kind of refreshing since so many books the last years feel so bleak to me.
I think so at least, they are well written, the characters are good, and there is a warmth in them between people that is really good. I also really enjoyed the duchy of terra series that I've read of him, after having read 18 books by him I have to say I really enjoy his writing, it's not so complex, but entertaining and well paced, I'd say at least give one or two a try :)
Seems like foldable phones are taking over (e.g. Motorola Razr making waves) and only Apple is missing an entry in this form factor now. Almost everyone who can afford one swears by it with the exception of weak build quality....
I don't know, for me they just feel so flimsy, but then again, I'm the one usually buying phones that are out of date when I get them, and use them until they break, so I'm probably not representable..
Just joined, and well, I'm thinking ill stay. Ive been looking for a good reddit alternative for a while now. devs, you've done quite some good work here.

They don't understand that we never agreed to any of their TOS/policies, they don't understand that we don't use their API....
I went to Reddit today...
And saw a bunch of posts about the third party apps closing down, and lots of negativity about that whole fiasco....

Hello Ex-Reddit people!
I saw the recent API charge news with Reddit and saw that people were discussing alternatives to Reddit in the event we all have to abandon it....
