sourcery,

Don’t sleep on Small Gods, it’s incredibly good.

sourcery,

If those votes are important to him then Biden should earn them by not being complicit in a genocide. Maybe Biden is a Trump supporter by continuing to do so? After all if not voting for Biden is a vote for Trump, Biden doing genocide is also him voting for Trump.

sourcery,

The video itself is fine, but linking odysee when it’s dominated by nazis, charlatan chiropractors pretending to be medical doctors, and all the rest that youtube won’t allow on their platform probably due to racism isn’t a good thing. A youtube alternative would be nice but not when it’s composed of nazis.

sourcery,

Because odysee platforms them and it shows up in recommended videos, when searching for content and on the front page, along with bigotry. If you want to defend odysee some more do a search for ‘jews’ on it and see what you get.

Is it wrong to pirate movies I've purchased digitally and load onto my Plex server?

Just would like to have a discussion on the topic. I’ve purchased around 20ish movies/shows on Vudu, and my wife has grown to be unhappy with Vudu’s UI and especially how the watch progress works. I am curious what some others thoughts on this are. My initial thoughts are I recognize I’ve purchased a license to watch the...

sourcery,

They defederated because they didn’t want piracy discussions on their instance.

sourcery,

My instance can still interact but I do get bad gateways going to their site directly and have to reload so your guess is as good as mine.

Those of you who are married, how do you go about privacy if your wife or husband does not care?

I have always been curious about this. Did you get them to use other services or did they stubbornly refuse and you just accepted it? I am talking using Chrome, using Windows, using social media like Tiktok or Facebook or Instagram, etc. Bonus points if you have kids because that is even more work in the privacy realm

sourcery,

I don’t try and push my weird opinions on my wife lmao. She knows how I feel and understands and does what she wants and that’s okay. My advice is to communicate and respect each other even if you don’t agree and don’t be a controlling dork.

sourcery,

I think you missed the point.

Herd Mentality in this Community

Hi. I recently had some issues with my lemmy client which made me accidentally post the exact same thing here twice. The posts were about privacy on my school issued computer. I could have made it more clear, but I wanted privacy from the companies that make their spyware not from the school that owns the computer. Anyway, as of...

sourcery,

I have had similar thoughts about early posts and upvotes and downvotes making people more unlikely to post even slightly differing opinions for fear of getting a negative number or something silly like that, but this seems like an issue with the platform in general and is only worse because we have a smaller community on Lemmy.

sourcery,

As always I am reminded that governments are run by the tech illiterate.

sourcery,

This is what happens you mix moonshine and cousin fucking.

sourcery,

I did not have defending DRM on my bingo card. Transphobia is especially vile though.

sourcery,

Yes brother, we must find our CIA approved sanctuary free of those terrible hexbears and their pig poop balls emojis.

sourcery,

I didn’t even know about prop hunt, this is a cool little project idea. I hope you’re able to improve on the plugin.

sourcery,

I’ll admit I took the bait, but I am more embarrassed for the instance that they got to actually defederate.

Defederate From lemmy.dbzer0.com

They are a lemmy instance dedicated to the facilitation of piracy, and copyright infringement in general which is illegal. It is by nature in violation of the rules of your instance which prohibit illegal content, therefore it is imperative that you defederate it in accordance with your policies.

sourcery,

Discussions aren’t illegal in most places, but maybe Disney will give you your good boy points.

Will Corpos try to force all computing on the to cloud and make privately owned local storage illegal?

Seems like the next logical step. Most big games are always-online Games as a Service where your local storage is useless if the company server doesn’t handshake. A lot of business and productivity software already requires subscriptions and is partially online. Every single fucking company wants to have an app on your phone...

sourcery,

I think you succinctly described the problem the internet is facing. I am not even sure making it illegal to have information is really necessary anyway. Consider Googles Web Environment Integrity, DRM that can effectively control access to websites, a single company controlling the information we are allowed to consume. An economic system based on capital will always work against our interests.

This is why piracy is not only ethical, it is good for humanity to share information as widely as possible.

Minimum Wage workers not using common sense are the worst.

So I’ve been noticing most of the cashiers at big supermarket keep asking customers to use self checkout but little do they know that these numbers are being recorded and once executive of that big supermarket see customers have learnt to use self checkout then they will get rid of cashiers and replace with the self checkout....

sourcery,

I worked as a cashier in a supermarket.

Some stores are very strict about coupons and do monitor what a cashier has in their drawer. I doubt most cashiers would even care if you stole from the store as long as it wasn’t their problem.

These people are just trying to keep their jobs and the corporation that has its boot on their neck might be the only place that will hire them. Do you really expect them all to stop working and protest when they see their jobs being replaced? Come on, they have rent to pay and kids to feed. Have more empathy towards those suffering from capitalism.

sourcery,

I keep everything I download as long as it’s of sufficient quality on many large HDD’s. Most of my media is then served through Jellyfin. Considering the state of the internet recently I think it’s important to download what you care about before it becomes unavailable.

sourcery,

Not all are connected, and I don’t think it would be wise to do so in the long run anyway if I keep trying to preserve data like I am. Eventually I’ll have a proper backup system and a dedicated NAS.

sourcery,

I think Free Software philosophy is polarising because advocates understand proprietary software mistreats the user and there is too much risk or temptation by developers or their corporate interests for profit. If you follow that train of thought you should be able to see why it would be inappropriate to recommend proprietary software in FOSS spaces.

sourcery,

It would be nice, though I'm sure it's really popular to think it's a joke to care about anything and go with the hivemind (the younger Twitch crowd especially). Also there's a lot of addicts in the RS community and I doubt they're willing to dislodge the boot when it means giving up some of their content.

sourcery,

I'm surprised any Stargate fan actually likes it, but I respect you for having that opinion. Luckily any memory of Infinity has left me.
